Researchers from the Center for BrainHealth at The University of Texas at Dallas have found evidence that the effects of chronic marijuana use may depend on when a person started smoking pot and for how long.
For the study, which was published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences on Nov. 10, Francesca Filbey from the School of Behavioral and Brain Sciences at the University of Texas at Dallas, and colleagues involved 48 adult marijuana users who started to use weed when they were between 14 and 30 years old.
The participants smoked pot thrice a day on average; most admitted that they had been using weed for 10 years. Some participants reported they had been using marijuana for 30 years.
The researchers had the participants take an IQ test and undergo MRI scans. They then compared the results with those of 62 individuals who were nonusers and found that in cognitive tests, marijuana users had lower IQ compared with those who did not smoke pot.

Great, another study that does not prove cannabis is dangerous—unless the government gets involved.
They have the same problem as the military and standards, finding the bodies, but you keep wanting to add that they are leaving the best out, and that isn't what is being said.
I believe that it is people with smaller brains are the ones who use the dope. What came first, the dope or the dope?
Up is down. Black is white. Next question.
Tommy is toking up with a mixture of Maui Wowie and Labrador. He said in this scene “that his dog ate his stash!”
Yes, I’ve seen that too in others. And I realize booze can do it too, but I don’t understand why some folks believe no harm can come from pot.
I believe the studies can lead to more than one conclusion.
I noted the same thing about alcohol in post early in the thread. Drug abuse includes alcohol abuse, in my opinion.
Western civilization did fine with booze and refused to adopt Cannabis as an intoxicant whether thousands of years ago, or the crusades, or before the 1960s, but the Cannabis based cultures of the Middle East and the Orient and India, all look like inner dwelling stoner societies.
“Makes you stupid. I have a friend who was a top 10 HS student, National Merit Scholarship winner and deans list in college. He started smoking while on campus. 40 years later he is stocking shelves at a grocery store and deals daily with deep paranoia.”
Yes, it makes you temporarily stupid and sometimes temporarily paranoid. And yes, many people do get carried away and smoke constantly. I’ve also known people that smoked for decades who are very successful and make up the 1%. They simply manage their time and get work done when needed.
IMO, even the heaviest use does not cause a permanent change and they won’t be stupid within a few days of quitting. There is NO evidence of permanent changes after decades of studies and they have been trying very hard. Not a SINGLE example of a true before-after change exists. See my post #12.
Pot is slightly physically addictive in some of the heaviest users (slightly poor sleep and appetite) but overall is far less physically addictive than coffee and alcohol. Alcohol withdrawal can cause death and caffeine withdrawal can cause incredible pain. IMO, even sugar is more physically addictive than pot. Lots of those gigantic people you see drinking big gulps would be in bed if you took their sugar away for 1 day.
Some people can work on Wall Street and go out to bars every night. While other people get a taste of beer and end up in the gutter drinking hand sanitizer. Some people can go to a strip club once a year while other people end up mortgaging their home for dollar bills. Some people play video games once a week while others end up living in their parents’ basement. Some people can eat one candy while others eat all in sight and eventually need a crane to get out of bed. Some people buy only what they need online while others max every credit card to buy stupid trinkets. etc, etc, etc.
Just because some people get carried away and even destroy themselves does NOT mean everything pleasurable should be banned.
Cigarettes are not used by schizophrenics to cause mental illness. The schizophrenics use cigarettes to self medicate themselves. And they may have a case about this as nicotine is being looked at to help mental illnesses.
“Cigarettes are not used by schizophrenics to cause mental illness. The schizophrenics use cigarettes to self medicate themselves.”
Nobody uses anything to CAUSE mental illness. Self-medication and lower self-control is precisely why they are more likely to seek all mood altering substances- nicotine, pot, alcohol, caffeine, etc. It does not mean those substances caused their illness
It’s a good point that our society has a history of alcohol use, not pot.
the old Cheech and chong recordings have been proved true!
Yes, but they actually were pro-pot. Of course, arguing with pot heads is strange. They’re like a drunk who thinks his speech isn’t slurred when he’s drunk. It is.
Hell....I'm an ex-surfer/skater SoCal "dude"...and I say it more than these kids...!!! LOL!!!

“verbal unaffected” that’s why they call it loudmouth soup!
