(CNN) -- Glenn Beck shared Monday a secret he's kept from almost everyone for years: He's been battling a serious and rare illness.
"It has baffled some of the best doctors in the world. It has frightened me and my family, as we didn't know what was happening," the conservative radio and TV host said on TheBlaze, a network he founded.
Eventually, he learned what was wrong: he had a variety of ailments, including an autoimmune disorder and adrenal fatigue.
Beck said he struggled to remember names, faces and conversations. At other times, his hands would shake and he would be forced to curl up into a ball. "While I was at Fox, the pain would get so bad that my camera crew, our executive producer Tiffany and I, had worked out hand signals so they would know when to take the camera off of me," Beck said.
"We didn't know at the time what was causing me to feel as though, out of nowhere, my hands and feet, or arms and legs would feel like someone had just crushed them, set them on fire or pushed broken glass into them."
Beck said he rarely slept, but was never tired.

When I joined the AF in 1977...I came to work with some young guy who was wrapping up four years of service and getting out. The guy had a medical folder that was about five inches thick, I kid you not. Over a four-year period....he’d had just about every kind of treatment that you could imagine. The shop NCO expected this guy to be gone a minimum of eight hours a week. Two hours a week were marked down for physical rehab for some shoulder injury which he’d had for the entire time.
I’ve come across other characters with the same issues. When I retired in 99...my medical folder of twenty-two years was two inches thick.
Those of us who watched and listened to Beck a lot during those years knew something was seriously wrong.
His meds are just imbalanced.
My doctor’s file on me is all of 3/4” thick, and I’ve been seeing him for 41 years. Of course, all my x-rays etc are on a flash drive now...
It has to do with handling guilt and non sleep. A Jewish trait but probably mixed in with the German blood, Ukranian, Russian.
News I can use!
Ya think?
I'm sick of Beck. When he's infrequently right, he tends to be very, very right.
The rest of the time it's BS and hyperbole. I stopped listening to him years ago. Got tired of the "Coming up after the break....This is the GREATEST, MOST EARTHSHATTERING news you will hear EVER! IT will CHANGE the entire WORLD as YOU know it!" .... and it would be some radio station in Bearfoot, Montana that just started carrying his show.
Yawn. I decided to skip the drama. Now I just check in occasionally with him via FR articles.
Exactly. He’s had “serious health issues” before. I just can’t remember the details but it was something “major”. LOL!
this is a cynical ploy for headlines..
he annoys the heck out of me...I can’t stand this drama queen. Furthermore, he thinks he is funny , which is also highly annoying. I could give crap about his religion... Good for him, that is not the issue here.
Honestly, I wish he would retire...I don’t even like seeing headlines concerning this guy.
“.....and now I’m getting dandruff.”
again?
LOL! That's funny, because it's true.
I remember when he said diet soda almost killed him.
Hey there! When I heard him on the radio yesterday saying he was announcing something, AND that Ravi Zacharias was going to be with him, as well as Tanya, I would have bet the farm he was announcing he was giving up Mormonism and becoming a Christian.
As for his announcement... wouldn’t the rest of us just have been like “Hey! Great news! I found the answer to my medical problems and am taking care of it! Praise God!”? Why the need to put on a production? Ratings? Subscribers?
Sheesh..... He’s done some good stuff, but come on!
Pre-diagnosis, patients are often told that their symptoms are psychosomatic. Misdiagnosis is very common. I actually diagnosed myself, finding a white paper on-line and matching up my symptoms.
The sun comes up and the sun goes down
The hands on the clock keep a-goin’ ‘round
I just get up and it’s time to lay down
Life gets tee-jus, don’t it, hmm.
My shoes untied but I don’t care
I ain’t a-figurin’ on goin’ nowhere
For I’d have to wash and comb my hair
And that’s just wasted effort.
The water in the well just gettin’ lower and lower
Can’t take a bath at six months more
But I’ve heared it said and it’s true, I’m sure
That to much bathin’ will, will weaken you.
I opened the door an’ the fly’s swarm in
Closed the door and I’m sweatin’ again
And in the pros... (a huchh) crack my shin
Just one darn thing after another.
Old brown mule he must be sick
I jambed him in the rump with a pin on a stick
He humped his back but he wouldn’t kick
Now there’s something cockeyed somewhere.
A mouse a-chewin’ on the pantry door
He’s been at it fer a month or more
When he gets through he’d sure be sore
‘Cause there ain’t a darned thing in there.
Hound dog howlin’ so forlorn
Laziest dog that was ever born
He’s a-howlin’ ‘cause he’s a-settin’ on a thorn
An’ just to tired to move over.
The tin roof leaks and chimney leans
An’ there’s a hole in the seat of my old blue jeans
And I ett the last of the pork and beans
Just can’t depend on nothin’.
Cow’s gone dry and the hens won’t lay
Fish quit bittin’ and it’s Saturday
Troubles are pilin’ up day by day
And now I’m gettin’ dandruff.
Grief and misery, pains and woes
Debts and taxes, yea, so it goes
I think I’m gettin’ a cold in my nose
Life get tee-just don’t it?...
Limbaugh pulled the same crap when he introduced his "earth-shattering" ice tea gimmick.
Many FReepers have ailments, some serious.
I believe Beck, too. I explains some things.
Glass houses, stones, and all that jazz.
Alcoholism and feeble mindedness?
