(CNN) -- Glenn Beck shared Monday a secret he's kept from almost everyone for years: He's been battling a serious and rare illness.
"It has baffled some of the best doctors in the world. It has frightened me and my family, as we didn't know what was happening," the conservative radio and TV host said on TheBlaze, a network he founded.
Eventually, he learned what was wrong: he had a variety of ailments, including an autoimmune disorder and adrenal fatigue.
Beck said he struggled to remember names, faces and conversations. At other times, his hands would shake and he would be forced to curl up into a ball. "While I was at Fox, the pain would get so bad that my camera crew, our executive producer Tiffany and I, had worked out hand signals so they would know when to take the camera off of me," Beck said.
"We didn't know at the time what was causing me to feel as though, out of nowhere, my hands and feet, or arms and legs would feel like someone had just crushed them, set them on fire or pushed broken glass into them."
Beck said he rarely slept, but was never tired.

Sympathy ploy?
Sounds like he needs a vacation. His Mormonism always bothered me about his core beliefs.

Mental health issues
I remember a few years ago, Beck said something about him going blind. I think he’s ‘cried wolf’ on his health issues one too many times now.
That does have to be part of it. Sleeplessness indicates some sort of mental illness, usually.
Sleeplessness indicates mental illness? Where was that written, the National Enquirer?
I once heard he announced he had hemmeroids too! I kid you not.
I hope he had his hankie with him.
Ratings and revenue must be down.
Beck sure like to see his name in the MSM. He's had serious mental health problems for years.
My first thought was psychosomatic. He has stressed himself into being sick.
I knew slightly a person who reminds me of Glenn Beck today. This person was in media, and was the father of a school friend of mine. Constant drama, going off on secret missions to talk to unnamed VIPs who were going to confide things that would blow the lid off reality as we knew it.
None of it ever came to anything. Not a single bit of it.
I think this person may have had some borderline mental illness.
If that's the way it is, I think I'd better check myself into a nuthouse right away!
Just say piles; it's easier to spell.
Pffftttt
I hate to be cynical, because I really do like his show, and generally tend to like him, but I don’t think it’s beyond him to overly ‘dramatize’ or embellish things a bit for ‘added effect’. I listened this morning, and when I heard him discussing it, something about it just didn’t ‘smell right’. I’d say the basis of it is true, but he’s being a bit of a ‘drama queen’ about it.
I could be completely wrong. That’s just the ‘feeling’ I get from it.

And therefore, he needed Obamacare to save his life and career?
