Every party in opposition goes a little crazy. For Republicans in the early Obama era, insanity took the form of the Sarah Palin spasm. Veteran politicos took the former Alaska governor seriously as a national figure. Republican primary voters nominated the likes of Todd Akin, Christine O'Donnell and Sharron Angle. Glenn Beck seemed important enough to hold a big rally at the Lincoln Memorial.
Fortunately, serious parties eventually pull back from the fever swamps. Thats whats happening to the Republican Party. It has re-established itself as the nations dominant governing party. Republicans now control 69 of 99 state legislative bodies. Republicans hold 31 governorships to Democrats 18.
When the next Congress convenes in January, Republicans will have their largest majority in the House of Representatives since 1931; they will have a majority in the Senate, dominate gubernatorial power in the Midwest, and have more legislative power nationwide than anytime over the past century.
Republicans didnt establish this dominant position because they are unrepresentative outsiders. They did it because they have deep roots in four of the dominant institutions of American society: the business community, the military, the church and civic organizations....

Sarah lives rent-free in the liberal mind. It’s pretty funny.
I can’t wait for Gov Palin to take oath as POTUS on Jan 20, 2017
Why would I ever care what David Brooks feels about anything... Stupid ...
And a GREAT BIG good morning to you, too, bigPalintrolldaddy!!!
I’m sorry, did I say something incorrect? Did Mrs. Palin NOT endorse a Democrat? Against a Republican? Please enlighten me.
Damned with faint praise comes to mind...
BTW - nobody cares what "Uncle David" thinks about Sarah Palin - nor does anyone care what your trolliness thinks about Palin. LOL! :)
It gets people to read the article.
Sure it might have been a better article without the snarky title, but a lot less people would mouse-click it.
Brooks's response to your question, though, might be that there are a lot of people who arouse public interest but who aren't likely to have successful political careers.
Well fortunately I have enough of a life such that I don’t track the posting habits of others. But if thats how you care to spend your time... have at it.
She’s held four or five elected offices, how many has avid Brooks held?
Yes, because if one is not TOTALLY supportive of Mrs. Palin, then one must be a troll. Your logical abilities are indeed stunning.
Haters gonna hate. One of us got a degree based on our logical abilities, and it ain't YOU, Palintroll.
I hope this lack-of-habit does NOT extend to politicians; or you'll think what they NOW say is what they THEN said.
NEVER knowing what they've told in the past makes it REAL hard to see if they are flip-flopping now..
Hey, bigdaddy45, to answer your obnoxious, trolling question:
Palin endorsed a Democrat/Libertarian ticket in Alaska because that ticket is more interested in upholding the Alaska constitution than the R ticket was.
In case you haven’t been paying attention, oh, for the last 10 years or so, the GOP in AK is desperately corrupt and the very definition of crony capitalists with Big Energy companies.
Do some homework and you’d know why Palin endorsed Walker.
Sarah Palin scares the heck out of Dhimmicraps because they know she’s a much more serious figure than anyone in their party.
It’s time to stop taking David Brooks seriously.
