Russian vectoring usually goes in any direction
Looking at the wiki pic, it seems that the S-37 may be up/down also -
- not much sideways clearance to the control surfaces.
That seems true. I was probably thinking of the other plane they had with thrust vectoring. I could be wrong of course.

and see this video of one meant for the MiG-29, looks like it was at a trade show or something

The Eurofighter version looks bulky and dysfunctional by comparison
A lot of those low speed maneuvers are for air shows. Going slow and then into a flat spin would get you killed very quickly in combat.
I was thinking the same thing. Slow moving target, big heat signature... what could go wrong?
I do wonder about this. What if you saw some missiles coming in at distance turned and went straight at them missing them by 100 feet up or down? Could that work?
I honestly don’t know.
Uh oh, how do say "fire the rear cannon" in Russian??
Doubtful. A lot of missiles are designed to explode in the proximity of their target, spraying it with hundreds of pieces of shrapnel.
True but a C-130 armed with a bunch of AMRAAMs can shoot down a lot of top end fighters.
Okay. Thanks. That makes sense.
sorry, but bushie in cohorts with mcpain cancelled the f-22.....
i hope the new bunch of pubs are better than the last batch
The Russians make some nice looking aircraft while we have fat looking aircraft.
The SU-27 and its derivatives are very big; bigger than most US aircraft types. So the ‘fat’ argument doesn’t exactly stand.
Fat looking. I know they say it is for stealth but it still looks fat.

Am sure Pooty is hoping Arhentina or Vensuhela will buy some........ if they ever get any money.
Venezuela has already purchased the SU-30, an older cousin.
On credit?
Nope, they were bought during the heady days of Chavez when oil prices were high(er).
~If an enemy has 100 of these available, on a day when we have 10 F22s available ....~

Just look at how easy the technology is. They can bake it the way warplanes were built in US in WWII, by the thousands.
Someone told me that in late 1990s when they charged China and Malaysia up to a 50 million per copy they still offered to Russian air force for about a million dollar a pop and it was still considered profitable.
Still, as with many Russian maintenance requirements and costs with buyers like Venezuela result in lots of unavailable planes.
