Sen. John McCain is the least popular senator in the country of those surveyed by Public Policy Polling, with low marks from members of his own party, independents and Democrats.
Just 30 percent of Arizona voters approve of the job the Republican senator is doing, while 54 percent disapprove, according to a PPP release Thursday. That is the worst of any senators polling in the nation that PPP has found.
Among members of his own party, McCain is at 35 percent approval to 55 percent disapproval; the comparable figures among Democrats are 29 percent to 53 percent, and among independents, 25 percent to 55 percent.
McCain also trails most potential challengers if he chooses to run again in 2016. Former Rep. Gabby Giffords led McCain 42 percent to 35 percent in a hypothetical matchup, and former Surgeon General Richard Carmona led McCain 41 percent to 35 percent.

Of the chosen targets for conservative revolt, this is priority #1. We need a top tier recruit. Last time unfortunately, McLame was more popular, and we split our support between J.D. Hayworth and Jim Deakin. That cannot happen again.
Trent Franks (AZ-8) might not be a bad idea to court. He's got one of the most conservative records in the house, massively popular in his district (just won with 76%).
If McShame runs again, he must be brought down just like Harry Reid will be.
BTTT
I would recommend that Trent continue his campaign in a low key manner by continuing the occasional POSITIVE CONSERVATIVE radio spot. This will put his name forward to the conservative base and name recognition is going to be important in 2016 with all of the national hype.
He won’t run again.
The man is close to 80 years old. RETIRE ALREADY !!
Originally, many thought that, but as soon as a potential primary challenge was mentioned, he has been indicating he wants to run because he hates the Tea Party. If he retires, the task is easier, but still important. Repubes will try to shove some moderate hack in there. Arizona needs a solid conservative senator. Flake has turned into a joke.
Will that vaunted Dem celebrity “Commander” Mark Kelly (aka Mr. Gabrielle Giffords) be the Dem nominee in opposition? Those type of celebrity candidates didn’t do very well on Tuesday.
This was back in March. Another poll came out in the summer saying Reid was the worst.
Definitely. Franks was strongly considering running for the empty Kyl seat, but balked at the last minute.
He’s too busy killing seals with his dog on a beach somewhere. Spaceman can get lost.
He had low numbers in 2010, too, but AZ elected him for another term.
His competition was a talkshow host.

Hayworth was also a former congressman. An incumbent congressman would have a better shot.
AZ won’t give up McAmnesty. Pathetic.
I saw an interview with him, singing Hillary’s praise and not much good to say about Cruz or Paul. Left it unanswered if he would vote for Hillary if Paul was the R.
His ejection seat worked one too many times.
It was a dark day when J.D. Hayworth lost the 2010 primary to McCain.
I gave money to Hayworth last time and got excoriated here for some perceived unforgivable sin Hayworth did. If McCain gets the nomination this time, I’ll give money to his Demwit opponent.
So much for party unity! McLame needs to be put back in his bamboo cage!
...and, the source is Politico...
Somebody mentioned McLame’s mom is 102 and going strong. If he follows the DC model of going right from the Senate floor to the mortuary, he could have another couple decades.
God help us...
