The Democrats’ lost generation
Politico ^

As Democrats take stock of their grievous losses in the 2014 elections, party leaders are confronting a challenge perhaps even more daunting than their defeats in the House and Senate: the virtual wipeout of the Democratic talent pool across the country.

After the Republican waves of 2010 and 2014, the party is depleted not just in its major-league talent, but also in its triple-A recruitment prospects. It amounts to a setback, Democrats say, that will almost certainly require more than one election cycle to repair.

At the start of the 2014 campaign, Democrats envisioned an election that would produce new national stars for the party in at least a few tough states – Georgia Sen. Michelle Nunn or Kentucky Sen. Alison Lundergan Grimes, for instance, or maybe even Texas Gov. Wendy Davis. Even if the party fell short in those “reach” states, Democrats hoped to produce new heavyweight blue-state Democrats – Maryland Gov. Anthony Brown, the country’s only black state executive; or Maine Gov. Mike Michaud, who would have been the first openly gay candidate elected governor.

IMO, their biggest problem is that that group represents an EXTREMELY unlikeable bunch of people.

Wish I could say their policies were likewise not liked, but ballot initiatives on hiking the minimum wage and mandating paid sick leave prove otherwise.

The Dem campaign (whether it’s Hillary or Lizzie) will be “put grandma in the White House”

Of course having all the leadership in their 70s will be a big attraction too.

2014 was a great wave for the GOP. No doubt about it. The "anti-Obama" platform worked well for the Pubs, this time.

All these obits for the Democrats are extremely premature. 2016 will be entirely different.

Every presidential year, their base is roused. Many of them are too ignorant to be bothered by mid terms elections, but presidential elections are easy for them to understand. They see Dem candidate as someone with a stash of money, that if they get to the polls and vote for that candidate, they're gonna get some of that stash. That type of motivation is absent in midterms, thus a sizeable chunk of the socialist base (i.e. the Democrat party) doesn't bother to show up.

These Democrat voters (both real and phantom) will be out in force in 2016 to pull the lever for Hillary or whichever Marxist/Alinskyist the Dems/MSM are running. The war on women meme, which some on our side have pronounced defeated, will be resurrected. Race card played again. Massive support from minority groups. It will all be in our face again in 2016, providing unbelievable headwinds for the GOP.

The best way to counter the inevitable Dem tactics is to run a true conservative. I say that because common sense conservatism is the medicine this suffering nation needs at this time if it ever hopes again to lead the world again.

Note to the GOP power brokers: We've tried moderate candidates in the last two presidential elections. How about if we try running a real conservative this time?

I struggle with this question:

Why can the Dems inspire the “Entitlement Army” to vote every 4 years but not every 2 years. Somehow the difference in physical activity required does not seem that great....?

Many in their base are NOT well informed, intelligent people. Rush calls them the low information voters (that is putting it politely, IMHO) For these types of voters, it is so much easier to focus and be motivated when a Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton is at the top of their party's ticket, running for president. Midterms are for Senate, House, etc; heck many of them have no idea who represents them in DC or their state capitols, but they all know who is running for Prez.

This map provides some very interesting insights. Democrat control has shriveled to urban cores, the Northeast corridor, Western coastal strip, Indian Reservations, and the old cotton counties of the South. Everyone not living in those enclaves are abandoning the Democrats in droves breaking apart the old blue collar and rural Democrat base.

The Democrat reaction to all of this is to double down with Identity politics, tired old socialists mantras, and a desperate scheme to import the voters that they must have. The Republicans can attack them on all of these fronts, if they have the will to do it.

All the cemocrats have is the amount of hate they can muster in their little victim groups. They have nothing to offer but welfare and handouts.

You’re a victim.
We care and we’re giving you some help.
They don’t care and they’ll take away that help.
See line 1.

That’s the core of almost all democrat campaigns.

The Democrats no longer have a majority even in vaunted Blue States. What the map illustrates is the breadth and depth of the GOP win - and that is likely to be long lasting.

What the Democrats face is they have no fresh presidential talent on show for 2016 - they have a lot of elderly faces but no one original and inspiring to offer the country. Obama was a one act wonder and Clinton has nowhere near the likeability, the charisma and the appeal he once possessed.

The Democrats’ road to retaining the White House in 2016 is only going to get even tougher.
