Yesterdays Democratic wipeout had many causes, but immigration was clearly one of them. When the president said, My policies are on the ballot this fall, he was talking about things already done, like Obamacare, but also things to come. And whatever we think he might do in the future, hes made only one concrete policy promise in that regard unilateral lawless amnesty for millions of illegal aliens by the end of the year.

As Mickey Kaus noted, Schumer would probably be chairman of the lucrative Banking Committee if he hadnt pushed his amnesty bill.

Only one ballot question was focused specifically on immigration: Measure 88 in Oregon, to grant drivers licenses to illegal aliens. The same voters who backed liberal Democrat Governor John Kitzhaber for a fourth term and approved marijuana legalization also voted against licenses for illegals by a two-to-one margin. Opposition to Measure 88 got more votes than any candidate or any question on the Oregon ballot. And this despite opponents being outspent by more than ten-to-one.
As Kansas secretary of state, Kris Kobach wouldnt ordinarily attract national attention. But as a leader in the immigration-control movement John Judis in The New Republic labeled him as Americas Worst Republican he was targeted for defeat. He won by 18 points.

Lots of crowing about Republican gains today -- some deserved, I supposed -- but the fact is we have the same old entrenched leadership in place, incl Mitch "we will crush the Tea Party" McConnell. I'm not holding my breath that Big Conservative Ideas will be forthcoming, much less simple American ones like "no illegal invasion." It will be very interesting to see how the factions shape up over the next few months.
Great idea, except for one thing.
If he doesn’t do it, our jackasses in Congress will.
It's all Obama, all day long...
If Obama pushes for illegals to flood the country it means he wants a revolution. In that case we must be very careful because his evil will be out in the open.
Unfortunately, McConnel, Paul, Boehner, et all will push for a amnesty lite.
Anything this communist MF does is reversible.
They’re going to have a hard time getting amnesty through the House. They had a much more favorable position last time in 2007 — GWB was pushing amnesty and the Dems had a comfortable majority in the House. And yet, the GOP leadership could not deliver to Nancy Pelosi even the relatively small number of GOP votes she needed to get amnesty through. (She had to let off the hook a number of her Dems from unsafe districts.)
This time will be far more difficult. The Dem majority in the House is long gone. And the GOP reps are by and large more conservative than those in 2007. And, after that wave of unaccompanied children and now the Ebola scare, the American public is *much* less disposed to entertain the notion of amnesty. The earful that scared the crap out of those reps in 2007 would be a thunder in today’s climate.
