Check out these two tables, both courtesy of Nate Silver's FiveThirtyEight's fascinating live blog. First, check out the Democratic bias in the senate polling:

Next, here are the gubernatorial numbers:

That's a striking contrast between predictions and reality. As they say in sports, "that's why you play the game." That's why we hold elections. In this election at least, the "experts" were confident America was more blue than it wanted to be.
These aren’t ‘Nate’s’ polls. All he does is aggregate polls in general. He pointed out before the election that the polls were probably skewed toward to the Dems for this election.
Enthusiasm is a factor that is hard to measure and varies election to election. Negative enthusiasm translates to people who do not vote. Positive enthusiasm means that people will go to great lengths to ensure that they do.
Freepers who stayed home to that they could send a message in this election might be instructed by the above and especially by the difference it made for the Democrats this time around.
Please shaddup. Your RINOs ran on nothing and will do nothing.
He did well.
He will remain in business and include lessons learned going forward.
i have read this sentence several times, and i still cannot grasp its meaning...

As I look at the race, I would expect a Republican wave based on all that has gone wrong under the Socialists (Dems) However I have to face reality and realize the voters are not the same as they were in my early lifetime.
Demographics are against conservatives and it will get worse in the future. The Socialists get a majority of the Black , Jewish, Asian, Hispanic and Women's vote. That doesn't leave much for the conservatives to get because they seem to be in a minority position.
Having said all that, I believe the Socialists have so screwed up, that the innefective dumb Republicans will take the senate back, and surprisingly get 8 more seats - Tom
Pollsters have to deal with the great unknown of voter fraud. They have to account for the number of 99% Dem precincts which aren’t addressed in polls. That number has to be fudged in.
I know a lot of people who went to vote and yet did not vote for the Republican. I did a little analysis of the TN voting. About 6% voted for someone other than the Democrat or Republican across the races. More people voted on the first constitutional amendment than voted for Governor, or Senator, or in the House races.
Did you vote? Did you vote for Republicans? If you failed to do both, you are clearly not interested in conservative politics.
When your RINOs do something get back to me. Your GOP shill days are over. You are the problem, a-hat.
Yeah, anyone who hasn’t signed up for your suicide pact is a RINO. Elections are about winning, not sitting in the pasture and baying at the moon because everyone on the planet doesn’t agree with you. You have even outdone the Libertarian, at least they put up candidates without outstanding warrants.
Your party is all but DEAD when they do NOTHING. Please get back to me when they do something other than put their nose up Sortoro’s tuchus. LMAO.
What party do you belong to and where are they going? Lot’s of talk, no action. Did you vote? For whom?
Your GOPe is now in charge. What are you and they going to do about that. ... Nothing. All hot air. Keep pounding the table when you have NO FACTS.
You guys have truly become the lunatic fringe. The greatest conservative victory in my lifetime (67 years), the largest Republican majority in who knows how long, and all you can do is rail out against those who made it happen.
Any majority in our political system will include the wishy washy wanna be’s just trying to cash in on the wave. They are worms, but they are worms that have to be dealt with. When they are in leadership positions, the appropriate response is to change the leadership. The response of the sore loser crowd on Free Republic (your membership card is in the mail) is to lash out at fellow conservatives and lament the completely joyous fact that Dirty Dingy Harry Reid will soon be the former Majority Leader of the United States Senate.
As Winston Churchill said. “We will allow ourselves a brief period of rejoicing ...” and then we will get about destroying Democrats. Go rejoice.
You are the lunatic fringe. DO something, you won. You and your party will do nothing.
What you call the lunatic fringe just kicked the Democrats’ ass. What did you do? You did you vote for?
I voted a straight Republican ticket, no Democrats, no Libertarians, no lunatics.
Fess up.
Your party is in charge. What are they going to do ... the crickets are chirping. You go along to get along types need to lead. You can’t!
Well, they will be in charge of both houses of Congress, but not until January. Your party, however, remains in charge in the White House. Enjoy the next two years.
