Alaska Senate race still undeclared but Republican Dan Sullivan remains ahead
Washington Post ^ | 11/5/2014 | Sebastian Payne

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — While the rest the nation examines how and why the Republicans took control of the Senate, the races in Alaska remain undeclared. At the time of writing, Republican Dan Sullivan was four points ahead of incumbent Sen. Mark Begich (D-Alaska) — a lead that appears insurmountable given that nearly all the precincts have reported back.

Assuming there are no surprises in whatever votes were still in play -- including absentee ballots -- Sullivan may be on track to be the last big win for the Republican Party. According to Alaska's Division of Elections, the independent gubernatorial candidate Bill Walker also appears to be on track to unseat Gov. Sean Parenell (R). Neither races have been conceded or called.

The Begich campaign stood its ground despite trailing in the late vote count. The campaign manager for Alaskans for Begich, Susanne Fleek-Green, released a statement, stating “Begich will make a statement on the race after counts arrive from the seventy outstanding villages and when the number of outstanding absentee and questioned ballots is clear.”

“Sullivan may be on track to be the last big win for the Republican Party...”

Is this guy an imbecile??? How about the Louisianna runoff which will very likely go Republican.

That makes it 9+ a pretty respectable showing.

This would mean 8 additional seats for the Republicans, with a good possibility of a 9th in LA after the runoff.

I wonder how much the national rat party is ready to piss away in that race? Not much I reckon.

Since project HAARP is shutting down, both Begich brothers will now be out of a job.

Angus King and Joe Manchin are definitely switchover possibilities - if they want to keep their majority staffs, seniority, and subcommittee chairmanships.

Could take us to 55 or 56.

Isn’t Louisiana like ‘election fraud central’ in America?

Since HAARP is shutting down, will we be getting back our hurricanes?

The State of Alaska Division of Elections website shows Sullivan leading by about 8K votes with 100% precincts counted. I heard early this morning on the radio that there was delay in annoucning the winner, as they were awaiting votes/ballots to come in from a number of outer village areas throughout the state. Am fearful this election is ripe for theft.

Can someone explain to me how Mary Landrieu is magically going to become a great candidate when she would have lost in a landslide if only a single Republican had run against her? What, is she going to play the race card? Oh wait, that has been played. Is Obama going to show up and save her? Oh wait, he is toxic.

If Gillispie should recount the snot out of Virgina (even though we know how that ends up) make the dems waste resources there and watch Landrieu go down in flames.

Google shows 100 percent of the AK vote counted. Can that be right? Sullivan ahead by 8,000+ or 3.6 percent.

Typical in Alaska to no announce right away as it takes a while to tabulate the Grizzly Bear vote.

About the margin the Sullivan campaign hoped would hold up for them and it has.

Congratulations on a well-ran campaign. Its a sweet victory.

That’s where Begich is strong but I don’t think it will be enough to overcome Sullivan’s lead.

If it was closer, then Begich would have a prayer of squeaking through. Not this time.
