Mr. Elizabeth Taylor was less useful to conservatives than Michael Jackson’s pet monkey would have been as a Senator.
At least the monkey would have been a conservative vote on legislation about half the time.

John Warner was an accidental Senator in Virginia. He had been beaten in the primary by Dick Obenshain, who died in a plane crash during the campaign in which he would have become the winner. John Warner came back as the runner up and with the celebrity of his then wife, Elizabeth Taylor, he was constantly in the news. He won and has continued to win, although he shed Ms. Taylor along the way.
