The unrestricted use of fossil fuels must end soon if the world is to avoid dangerous climate change.
That is the central message of a stark new report from the UN-backed Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
The IPCC urges that by 2050, most of the world's electricity must - and can - be produced from low carbon sources.
Fossil fuels, without carbon capture and storage (CCS), should be phased out "almost entirely" by 2100.
It re-states many familiar positions:
Warming is "unequivocal" and the human influence on climate is clear
Since the 1950s the observed changes are unprecedented over decades to millennia
The period from 1983 to 2012, it says, was likely the warmest 30 year period of the last 1,400 years
Warming impacts are already being seen around the globe, in the acidification of the oceans, the melting of arctic ice and poorer crop yields in many parts
Without concerted action on carbon, temperatures will increase over the coming decades and could be almost 5C above pre-industrial levels by the end of this century

Agreed. And the solution will again be anti-science, anti-technology, and pro-government.
I’ve read that Liberals give off more CO2 than Conservatives... :)
How would you like to follow directives made by people in 1914 on our resource usage?
Weren't these people, just a short time ago, predicting that because of our gluttony for fossil fuels every last drop of oil from the earth would be extracted well before 2100? And coal, too?
Judging by the number of times the enviro-whacko movement keeps changing its positions (and terminology - global warming, climate change, global climate disruption, etc.), I guess they feel it's difficult to hit a moving target.
Global warming is real. Why just yesterday it started out at 49 degrees here and rose all the way to 70.
Stopping the funding of the UN may be the single biggest reason to never voting RINO again.
At a cost of $.25 per KWH
The IPCC should have BEEN history...an embarrassing chapter, but history, nonetheless...
Commiecrats don’t need data. Besides they only use the data that supports their case. And if they can’t find any data that does they do what commiecrats do best. They create their own and then lie about everything.
Meanwhile, the IPCC should be quickly phased out by 2015.
Translation: Hydrocarbon energy is too plentiful and too cheap, hence, it poses a threat to government-controlled wind, solar and other alternatives.
IPCC to be eliminated by 2022.
I lived in Berlin in the 1980s. The pollution that blew over from the non-capitalist part, REAL pollution, the kind that burns your eyes and throat, was horrendous.
as long as she is groveling to make her rent w/o full time employment & when her employer fires her in the end only THEN will she realize the gravity of her situation.
buncha’rabble rousers & tree huggers if you ask me.
here today gone tomorra’
and if they don’t like capitalism then just go live where they want to have perfect little fekkin’ world & be done with it. that’s all I’ve got to say about this one & I’ll say no more
I’m all for phasing out the IPCC and the UN, since they’re two of the most dangerous organizations in the world, especially to the western way of life.
Yep.
Too much of their money might start slipping to Ebola research.

The current Subaru commercial features people actually hugging a tree
I doubt you will be around for 2100 & neither I.
We're gonna need a bigger rubber band...
