"Theme for an Imaginary Western" is a song written by Jack Bruce and Pete Brown during the Cream days, but Eric Clapton and Ginger Baker rejected the song as "too pretty" for Cream's hard-edged reputation. It has been performed by many artists since it originally appeared on Jack's Songs for a Tailor album in 1969. It next appeared in 1970 on Mountain's Climbing! album. Mountain bassist/vocalist (and former Cream producer) Felix Pappalardi, who sang the song with Mountain, had helped to produce Cream and Jack's solo album and brought the song to Leslie West's attention for the first Mountain album. It went on to become one of Mountain's signature song's. Mountain debuted the song at the Woodstock Festival in August of 1969 and it appeared on the Woodstock 2 album.
The lyrics by Pete Brown are mentioned in his autobiography "White Rooms and Imaginary Westerns" as being about Jack's erstwhile bandmates Dick Heckstall-Smith and Graham Bond of The Graham Bond Organization.
In 1988, Bruce teamed up with Mountain guitarist Leslie West, and performed the song again on West's theme album, which was named after the song. West also performed it on Leslie West Live!
The song is a standard on gigs by the band Colosseum and it was recorded on their 1970 Daughter of Time album and their Colosseum Live05 Reunion album.

For those who may have missed the previous messages, my server is coming and going, off and on, flippidy doodle, so there's a better than even chance that if you try my links tonight, they may just time out on you. The links are good, and I'll leave the songs up for awhile for anyone who wants to hear them, so just come back later if you're having problems.
I had another 60+ songs uploaded for this Jack Bruce showcase, but it's taking me so long to refresh the pages at my hosting site (because the sever is coming and going, off and on, flippidy doodle) that I've simply run out of time, despite an extra hour to post tonight (note to self: Set The clock BACK!).
So until next time, good night, happy FReepin', God bless and I'll see you in church.

I know! I know! Each end zone is 10 yards, added to the 100 yard “field” equals 120 yards.
Thanks, spel, for all the tunes for one and all to enjoy. ((HUGS))
