If you want to know why liberals such as myself are feeling less at home on the Left these days, some of the reaction to this viral video about street harassment with a woman named Shoshana Roberts is a good place to start. Unlike some men, I’m not the least bit surprised at the amount of harassment she was subjected to while walking around New York City. I’ve seen it firsthand many times, and have had plenty of women tell me about the “creepy guy” on the street or the subway that they just had to put up with. It’s downright infuriating to think about, let alone witness. If you’re a guy who’s ever catcalled a woman, fuck you.
Unfortunately, some liberals simply couldn’t let the video stand as a testament to the bullshit that women go through. Why? Because most of the harassers in the video are nonwhite, which for some people constitutes an unacceptable narrative, even if that narrative is comprised entirely of subtext. Case in point, Hanna Rosin of Slate finds the video problematic because:
“[The] harassers are mostly black and Latino, and hanging out on the streets in midday in clothes that suggest they are not on their lunch break. As Roxane Gay tweeted, ‘The racial politics of the video are fucked up. Like, she didn’t walk through any white neighborhoods?'”
If SoHo and Greenwich Village — two of the neighborhoods in the video — aren’t “white neighborhoods” for New York City, I don’t know what is. Roberts can also be seen near the Port Authority, which is neither a black nor a white neighborhood. It’s just a hellhole.

She spent TEN HOURS trolling for rude comments, and all she could come up with was about 30 seconds of it? And that from people of instantly questionable character - to the point that even Leftists are nervous about what the exercise demonstrates? Construing that as the imputation in “So you’re saying that that’s the way we should act around women?” is stupid. Most people on the unedited video said nothing, and most of those selected for the “outrageous” examples were plainly being polite and complementary to someone who was in fact fishing for complements; that a few low class jerks exist (making their ethnic persuasion and her choice of trolling area...interesting) does not make a case for her claim - nor justifies your rude imputation.
Clearly, the problem is New York City itself. It must be destroyed, so as to preserve the dignity and virtue of the women who would live there. If it hadn’t been destroyed. Or something.
What would be the highlights had the stunt had been staged at, say, the Short Hills Mall in Essex County, New Jersey?

Of course I live in a civilized area so we just don’t see young (or old) men who do this. The only people who accost women around here are those annoying people at kiosks in the Mall!
My God man, do you need to learn some reading comprehension? Did I say catcalls is how you meet women? No, but there were men that were interested willing to talk to her without being inappropriate. I agree with you, however. It is the way men act , and it will never change. It’s a non issue. If she doesn’t want to be harassed, then she should find her a good man. It’s always been this way in downtown NYC. Maybe she shouldn’t walk through black neighborhoods. Because most of the inappropriate comments came from layabouts. Lounging on the concrete in the middle of the day? Get a job. Sheesh

Any woman that has an issue with the dopey video should thank God that “gender warrior” was walking in this country instead of Nigeria; she’d be married off to a Muslim “soldier”, converted to Islam with a bag over her head. So far our “new military” (dominated by politics) is 0-2 versus Islam (Iraq, Afghanistan); good thing we’re filling it with females and deviants.../s
Unless a woman is a direct relative or friend of mine, I could care less what happens to them; I guess that is an unintended consequence of the gender warfare in which they’ve been only too happy to participate. They can have their affirmative action (unearned college spots and degrees, jobs & promotions), their own “women’s executive groups”, etc. - then they can fend for themselves. If that woman was attacked in front of me in NYC, I’d simply look the other way; as a white guy that is all we’re allowed to do in this emasculated country we’ve created. She can ask the Dem politicians and residents (her fellow travelers in the voting booth) how it happened...

Sounds like you have some issues my friend. Gentlemen of my generation will defend any lady in trouble. No woman “asks for it” by simply being in public.
We don’t have to succumb to primitivity just because many do.

I’m sure I have many issues, and just as sure I’m not from your generation. Knockout game victims are supposed to suck it up because they “asked for it” by being in public; what’s good for the goose is good for the gander.
I’ll just somehow have to cope with having only sons...actually, my wife has to cope with that.
