If you want to know why liberals such as myself are feeling less at home on the Left these days, some of the reaction to this viral video about street harassment with a woman named Shoshana Roberts is a good place to start. Unlike some men, Im not the least bit surprised at the amount of harassment she was subjected to while walking around New York City. Ive seen it firsthand many times, and have had plenty of women tell me about the creepy guy on the street or the subway that they just had to put up with. Its downright infuriating to think about, let alone witness. If youre a guy whos ever catcalled a woman, fuck you.
Unfortunately, some liberals simply couldnt let the video stand as a testament to the bullshit that women go through. Why? Because most of the harassers in the video are nonwhite, which for some people constitutes an unacceptable narrative, even if that narrative is comprised entirely of subtext. Case in point, Hanna Rosin of Slate finds the video problematic because:
[The] harassers are mostly black and Latino, and hanging out on the streets in midday in clothes that suggest they are not on their lunch break. As Roxane Gay tweeted, The racial politics of the video are fucked up. Like, she didnt walk through any white neighborhoods?'
If SoHo and Greenwich Village two of the neighborhoods in the video arent white neighborhoods for New York City, I dont know what is. Roberts can also be seen near the Port Authority, which is neither a black nor a white neighborhood. Its just a hellhole.

Is it wrong for men to try to find a mate? Nope, sure isn’t. Natural human nature at work. The most basic one too, reproduction. Yes, let’s put that on trial and put a death sentence on it. Morons.
She should try it again. Topless this time; for PETA or the children or something.
WOW. Dose sum big yowzaas rite dere.
It shouldn’t sunrise anybody: low-class guys have always acted like that. The grim part is that they will push even harder if there seems to the slightest bit of what they interpret as encouragement.
I remember when the army decided to integrate women and men together in the barracks at Fort Sill in 1982 - and every evening the women had to run a gauntlet of noisy, pushy yokels every time they entered or left the barracks. Made me decide to keep my daughters as far as I could from serving in uniform.
I notice that she doesn’t mention her shoe size on her resume, but she seems to want everyone to know those are a pair of 34DDs under her black crewneck t-shirt.

Men have been doing that since I was young, and I’m an 82 year old woman.
It gave us all a good laugh-—that’s it.
.
The results of an IQ test would be interesting.
Yep. That’s how men find a mate, by talking to *shocker* women.
So you’re saying that that’s the way we should act around women? You don’t have daughters, do you?
Before we decided to downgrade our level of civilization, conduct like that was considered loathsome. Now it’s just diversity, I guess.
Yes, think of all the children. /smirk
I don’t care what the woman looks like or wears.
Those comments, even the seemingly harmless ones, were boorish behaviour. These men were not raised right.
Nope, I sure don’t and if I did I wouldn’t want them walking downtown NYC alone. I even said that in another post.
But this woman knew exactly what she was doing, and it’s just the way it is. It’s always been that way in NYC. Maybe a less inappropriate. I agree some of the calls are inappropriate. But what about the guy just wanting to talk to her? Did you find your wife or husband by being silent?
This is a non issue.
How many weren’t boorish behavior? She had to edit those ones out. I want to see the non edited tape. But we won’t. Lies, and lies and more lies.
Shoshana ain’t all that....not as much as she thinks.
Notice she is not walking on Wall St, or 5th ave, or Park Ave.
There she would be ignored.
She’s walking in Husdon Heights (Broadway north of 168th St), Brooklyn and some other neighborhoods populated by “ethnics”.
I’m calling her a LIAR and a FRAUD. This was staged to give her some acting career some credibility.
Celine Dion probably said it best: “ Let them touch those things for once.”
I think that is totally acceptable behavior in certain ethnic and socioeconomic groups- the whiney liberal women blaming it on white reaction defending a white woman are really reaching to condemn the behavior since most have welcomed it for years
