Poll: Governor’s race remains close with slight edge to Charlie Crist over Rick Scott
Miami Herald ^ | 10/30/2014 | Marc Caputo

Charlie Crist has slightly nudged ahead of Gov. Rick Scott in Quinnipiac University’s latest poll that shows the Democrat picks up 43 percent support from likely voters to the incumbent’s 40 percent.

That apparent 3 percentage point lead for Crist is essentially a tie because it’s within the poll’s margin of error, but the poll of 800 likely voters indicates Crist has some momentum on his side.

Last week, Quinnipiac surveyed the governor’s race and found it dead even between Crist and Scott, with each getting 42 percent. So the contest has shifted a net 3 percentage points in Crist’s favor or a net 5 points compared to Quinnipiac’s September survey that showed Scott with a negligible lead.

Boosting Crist: the strong support of self-identified independents, who favor the Democrat over Scott by a spread of 47-29 percent.

“Independent voters are often the difference in swing states like Florida, but the size of former Gov. Charlie Crist’s lead among them is truly remarkable,” Peter A. Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll, said in a statement.

Factor in the fraud vote, and it will be Crist in a walk.

If he can’t beat Crist he must be a pretty crummy candidate.

Another poll had Scott up 45-43 yesterday. The media who endorsed Crist are all running this poll as a headline, though.

If they vote for this loser, then Floridians deserve what they get.

Scott wins...by about 4 points...there is NO enthusiasm for Crist anywhere in Tampa ( Hillsborough)..you never see a Crist yard sign or bumper sticker...and that’s IMHO, a big indicator of lack of support. Dems will stay home..

What poll was that? I heard there was one, but didn’t know the firm that conducted it.

Florida elections are won and lost along the I-4 corridor. Win there, and you’ve won the state. It is the only area that needs to be polled.

Not really. These papers all endorsed Scott, and are running variations of “Crist is winning with independents” headlines:

You are right, it’s the snowbirds. Scott was consistently ahead in the polls until they showed up .

It’s got to be. I just can’t put my finger on why anyone would vote for that slug.

It’s amazing they’d even consider that tool in Florida again but I guess it’s gone blue.

I see Crist bumper stickers all the time in NE FL. You must not be looking too hard if you can’t see them in Tampa.

Scott won by 1% in the 2010 TEA year. Seems unlikely he would increase that to 4% this year. It will be close and can go either way.

It’s not the snowbirds. It’s the transplants. Massive increase in low income, low info voters to FL. They are Dems.
