I fully supported Terry Schiavo’s family. I blasted Bush for his inaction.
But I never did deny that overriding that judge would have required an act of civil disobedience on the part of Bush. He wasn’t prepared to go there. Neither were most pro-lifers, who did not storm the hospital and seize Schiavo.
So, Schiavo is part of why I gave Bush 1/2 and not 1.
We went down to Florida to the hospice. On the way down, they announced on the radio that Jeb Bush was going to send the National Guard. We almost turned around thinking that he would save Terri's life, but decided to go ahead since we were close to the Florida border by then. It turned out it was just a stunt. He called the Guard back.
I heard a phone called a reporter made, he told the person on the other side, he thought Jeb announced he was sending the National Guard in to get the support of his constituents, but he really didn't have any intention to use them. I thought about this and decided he was right.
I agree. Schiavo was a wash, and a very difficult situation. There are many other reasons not to like Jeb.
But I never did deny that overriding that judge would have required an act of civil disobedience on the part of Bush.
I just find it odd that the gop is never able to figure out how to succeed, ever.
Bottom line, if a Bush, Romney, Christie is top of the ticket we will not win. May as well start a 3rd party.
