Election Day isn't until next week, but Senate Majority Leader-in-Waiting Mitch McConnell is already warning Republicans who would like to repeal Obamacare and roll back environmental regulations about two key numbers: 60 and 2.
"It would take 60 votes in the Senate. No one thinks we're going to have 60 Republicans. And it would take a presidential signature. No one thinks we're going to get that," McConnell said during a campaign-stop interview with Fox News.
"This is why nobody believes Mitch McConnell anymore," said Mary Vought, spokeswoman for the Senate Conservatives Fund, a group that has pushed Tea Party candidates in GOP primaries against establishment incumbents. "He says he wants to rip Obamacare out 'root and branch,' but then flips days before his election and says he plans to surrender."
Dan Holler, a spokesman for the political wing of the Heritage Foundation, Heritage Action, said Republicans have to explain to America what they're for. "That is not going to happen if they sit there and make excuses about Harry Reid or Barack Obama. They need to be proactive about putting out an agenda," he said.
McConnell said that with a full Obamacare repeal impossible, he would instead push to repeal the law's tax on medical devices which a number of Democratic senators already support and to narrow its mandate on which workers must be covered.

Some people find facts inconvenient and prefer to just bay at the Moon. My dog does this, he's not into politics.
We did this in 2000, 2004 and 2010. When they had Congress AND the WH did they slow spending? Downsize the government?
They acted like Dems and voted like Dems. That backstabbed us then. Again, if not now, when?
Magic Beans.
Mitch is such a dumbass. Even if true, there are lots of ways to avoid saying that before the election.
He is such an idiot.
Mitch McConnell could go nuclear to get a repeal vote in the senate, but he has no balls, like all RINOs and RINO apologists.
Way to depress your base’s turnout with less than a week to go until the election.
Are these guys purposefully trying to lose, or do they honestly believe they don’t need the base of their party to win?
Either way, if they win, someone else needs to be Majority Leader.
I say again. Miotch is Soetoro’s biotch.
You veto, we impeach.
Constitutional quiz.
How many votes required to impeach?
Does impeachment remove the impeached from office?
How many votes required in the Senate to remove from office?
If the Republicans take the Senate, name enough Democrat Senators who would vote to remove the first (or second) black president from office.
They never had any intention of stopping amnesty or Obamacare or cutting spending
Well yeah. All the attempts to repeal were always doomed unless they had veto override numbers, which they won’t. They’ve all been nothing but fan service.
Look what damage was done to America and the democrats never had 60 seats
What a reprehensible slug.
Yeah, but can he do that to override a veto?
What you say is true, but the problem here is the total inability of the DC GOP to play politics to the masses. McConnell is an old fart that only knows how to be clinical. He has no idea how to be political and use that to an advantage down the road. He concedes what he can’t do and leaves it at that. There is no thought process other than what is in his recipe book.
You get the House and the Senate to put a total repeal of Obamacare on Obama’s desk. Then you will force him, all alone to veto that bill that the American people wanted to pass. By then, there will be the full stinking force of Obamacrae in place and it will be devastating to the people and also devastating to Democrats.
But McConnell can’t see how to use power to an advantage.
We do need new savvy leadership because I heard this interview on Cavuto and was totally underwhelmed.
Yep, he is old tortoisehead.
I am not so sure you can use the nuclear option to overide a Presidential veto.
Let Obama veto it, but Mitch should get the other RAT/RINO senators vote on the record for the next election. But McConnell has no balls so he won’t do it.
They didn’t pass amnesty, they didn’t increase the budget crazily, and the Medicare prescription plan was, at least during GWB’s tenure, coming in UNDER budget and helped the bottom line.
A senate vote if McConnell went nuclear would also force an override vote in the House and Senate if Obama vetoed the bill.
Get the RATS and RINOs in both houses on the record with an Override vote on Obama’s veto.
So, a whole new entitlement program was a “conservative” thing?
