Social Security Cards:

Why should I get a number for my child?

You need a Social Security number to claim your child as a dependent on your income tax return. Your child also may need a number if you plan to:

Open a bank account for the child;
Buy savings bonds for the child;
Obtain medical coverage for the child; or
Apply for government services for the child.

In 2008 I participated in Operation Chaos here in Texas. In the democrat primary I voted for Hillary(I listened to Sympathy for the Devil on my way to the polls.) When I attended the DEMOCRAT caucus that evening, I was asked to show photo id. I loudly protested, “I thought democrats were against showing id to vote,” and was tersely told, “If you don’t show id you, can’t participate. Dems want their party elections to be legitimate; they feel just the opposite about general elections.

He works as a “scrapper”, foraging in people’s garbage to collect cans, bottles and metal for recycling.

Maybe the United American Society of Scrappers (UASS) can help him out?

Due to ramped up drivers license requirements I had to spend $25 to get my birth certificate. This was just to renew it!! If I have to spend $25 to get my new photo ID/drivers license these lazy stupid people mentioned in the article can do the same. If they cannot perform this minimum civic responsibility then tough!!!!

The real thing going on is lots of blacks are paranoid of “the law” and are afraid to get these IDs. Lots of blacks like to live off the grid and have nothing to do with Gov’t except when it comes to voting for Obama or other Dems to support the welfare state and what they get from it

And then there’s the sixth method of identification allowed under the law. It’s a new form of photo-ID card created specifically for voting under SB14, known as an election identification certificate (EIC).

To get an EIC, Kennie needs to be able to show the Texas department of public safety (DPS) other forms of documentation that satisfy them as to his identity. He presented them with his old personal ID card – issued by the DPS itself and with his photo on it – but because it is more than 60 days expired (it ran out in 2000) they didn’t accept it. Next he showed them an electricity bill, and after that a cable TV bill, but on each occasion they said it didn’t cut muster and turned him away.

Each trip to the DPS office involved taking three buses, a journey that can stretch to a couple of hours. Then he had to stand in line, waiting for up to a further three hours to be seen, before finally making another two-hour schlep home.

In one of his trips to the DPS last year they told him he needed to get hold of a copy of his birth certificate as the only remaining way he could meet the requirements and get his EIC. That meant going on yet another three-bus trek to the official records office in a different part of town.

The cost of acquiring a birth certificate in Texas is $23, which may not sound much but it is to Kennie. He is poor, like many of the up to 600,000 Texans caught in the current voter ID trap.

The outcome was perhaps predictable by now: the birth certificate wasn’t up to scratch either. When he took it to the DPS (another three buses there, three buses back, another two hours waiting in line) they told him that the name on the birth certificate didn’t match the name on his voter registration card. The birth certificate has him down as Eric Caruthers – his mother’s maiden name – even though his parents were married at the time he was born.

Oh, good grief. So now it's racist to make this guy take a long bus trip, stand in line, get a copy of his own birth certificate, and fix a 45-year-old error (on his birth certificate) that his parents never caught or tried to fix themselves?

I early voted yesterday. I gave them my drivers license and they gave me a ballot after checking the voter registration roles.

I had no problems.

I don’t hear liberals complaining that Texans must show an ID to buy guns, booze, ammo, houses, get loans, open bank accounts, get a job, or anything else...just when it comes to illegal voting by illegal aliens they bitch.

I don't understand the problem. For years we've had voter ID in GA.

My precinct is run by elderly black ladies and the first thing they ask for is my photo ID. I have to write down my birth date and they carefully make sure it's the same on my driver's license. Then I go to another table and another elderly black lady scans my driver's license. I vote near downtown Atlanta, the most liberal part of the state. There's never a complaint about voter ID and very little voter fraud in GA.

When you get up in the morning buy a car, purchase insurance, drive to the liquor store and make a purchase, play the lottery, cash a check, buy cigarettes, pick up your prescription, buy some sudafed, open a bank account, sign up for welfare, get a library card, make a return at Walmart, book a plane or train ticket, visit the White House, meet with your elected representative, stop at a bar and have a drink and then, if you're not too tired after your busy day, vote.

Just show them the same ID that you've been using all day.

My state requires ID to buy booze and cigarettes, no exceptions.

I’m at an age where I thank the waitress when she asks me for my ID to prove I’m over 18.

They always do.

No problem for voting either

How’s it keep registered voters from voting? They are the only U.S. citizens that should be voting. You show your ID, you vote. You don’t show your ID, then who are you? And why should you be allowed to vote. Currently my home town doesn’t ask for ID, they find your address, then your name and check it off. And of course it’s a small town so most folks are known from years of voting at the one and only voting place.

He has a current drivers license.

He has a current voter Registration card.

OK, go vote!

Just how pathetic IS the author of this drivel that he could not even find an individual that actually did NOT have a drivers license?

Yet instead we get a collection of fallacy straw-man non-entities such as dealt with cases and One older man combined with ridiculous nonsense such as help individuals negotiate the Kafkaesque bureaucratic maze.

Bureaucratic maze?

It is one form of photo ID and a Voter registration card.

Even a democrat can figure out how to complete a voter registration card application.

And it is telling that the author could not find a single example of someone with no ID that they could put a name and a face on in the article.

.

Oh, puh-leeze! If one has to provide proof of identification to apply for and receive government benefits, buy booze, cigarettes, and a drink at the local bar...how freaking hard is it to provide identification when you vote?!?!? Not at all, I say. In the last several primaries and elections, I just take out my driver’s license and hand it to my election official. I guess I have been unfairly targeted and had an undue burden placed upon me. NOT!
