Among the 34 OECD countries, the US performed below average in mathematics and is ranked 27th

While the U.S. spends more per student than most countries, this does not translate into better performance (e.g. the Slovak Republic, which spends around $53k per student, performs at the same level as the US, which spends over $115k per student).

Yes, but by the first grade our kids can tell you about two daddies, two mommies, homosexual sex, LGBT topics, global worming, evil White men, the most disgusting nation on the face of planet earth, and a whole host of really important bits of information vital to the healthy upbringing of any child.

Math education in the US is a conspiracy to block people from growing up knowing logic and objective truth. The answer to every question has to be: “It’s whatever.” If people understood math, it would ruin everything, and their knowledge that some answers are Right and some are Wrong might slop over into other social areas and really upset the apple cart!
Not all math teachers understand that they are tasked with doing damage to young minds. Some math teachers actually think they are doing something Good. Which is shameful in itself.
Skills and topics that are not important to the educator will not be instilled in the student.
We may have hit a critical tipping point where educators, many of whom I respect, have too much of their trade motivated by political agenda and not by the trade-craft they signed on to practice.
We stopped teaching math decades ago when we switched to teaching arithmetic. Therein lies the problem.
Educational spending does not automatically translate into higher achievement. If you break it down by demographic group, I am sure that lower educational scores are better explained — nature vs. nurture debate. Cultural factors play a big role. What ever the cause, our low performing educational system does not help.
The top 20-50 urban school districts in the US put the education of students at the bottom of the priority list, if it appears at all. These districts are run by politicians, administrators and teachers who are interested in jobs, graft and "fairness". Providing a quality education at a reasonable price is not even given lip service.
It actually goes deeper. If the residents of these districts, the voters, actually cared about the kind of education their children are receiving things would be much different. The students, well aware of their environment, think paying attention and getting grades is "acting white" and therefore anathema to them.
The test results of these districts is cooked into this survey. Take them out of the survey and the US moves way up.
I routinely point out that we were far better off in the days of chalkboards and used textbooks - and it cost a whole lot less money.
Needless to say I don’t win many popularity contests with the local teachers and school board.
Take away “Holder’s People like St Trayon and Blessed Michael of Ferguson’ along with all the ILLEGALS from South of the Border, I’ll bet our Math scores are a hell of a lot higher.
Need to throw more money into the progressive Black Hole of Acadumbia.
Math be white.
The unions prefer stupid children who are easily molded into slaves.
But they know how to use condoms.
You can lead a horse to water....
And our first graders know what color trash can to throw what kind of garbage in.
We literally have a garbage-in garbage-out “education” system.
Get your children out of the public schools (government indoctrination centers) - NOW!!
The top 4 locations are all in China.
I know for a fact that Chinese teacher-student ratios happen to be on the order of 60 students per classroom, or more. And this is in the good schools, as well as the not-so-good (by their standards, not by ours). And the teachers are not highly paid. And the teachers do not go home at 3pm. And the teachers do not get a summer off.
Liberals lie. And when they get tired of lying, they lie down for awhile before getting up to lie some more.
Asians have a culture that values high educational achievement.
So do Jewish people, Germans, Scandinavians, and people from Trinidad and Tobago just to name a few.
I bet people from these groups score much higher in educational surveys than their peers.
