For many, a big part of being an exceptional actor is achieving a profound personal emptiness, deep to the point that the spirit of "The Character" can easily inhabit them for a time.
Both the Stanislavski System and The Method employ physical and emotional exercises not unlike the "emptying" of Buddhism and yoga to make room for a character to live through the actor. The result is a post performance vessel that is more than receptive to whatever spirit (more often demonic than angelic) might be seeking entry into a human host.
This (in my personal opinion) is the reason that so many practicing this craft find themselves abused of opinions and attitudes not based in reality.
The lucky ones become "blank."
The less fortunate find themselves possessed.
