I'd give it only a 0.1% chance, but if Ebola were to get really, really bad in the US (and I give that a 1% chance), I can imagine a scenario where health workers say, "We think you might possibly have Ebola: we need to toss you directly into that incinerator over there. Grab him boys!"

Faced with something like a Hollywood Zombie Apocalypse,I can see people doing whatever it takes to stop the spread.

Not likely. But possible.

This is totally understandable, the Dallas hospital will have to eat the $1/2 million in treatment costs and now is not getting patients so they cannot make up for it. It is a matter of survival for the hospitals.

Quarantine W. Africa. Any Obola positive patients already here get air transported in hermetically sealed containers to CDC designated facilities for treatment/disposal.

Some U.S. hospitals weigh withholding care to Ebola patients

Perhaps the reality is, hospitals recognize they don't have adequate equipment and Bio-level set-up to protect their existing medical staff.

The medical profession are there to help people, not to commit suicide or carry deadly diseases to their family and surrounding community.

All Ebola patients should be treated in the White Hut.

Withholding is a misnomer.

Hospitals and personnel can't give what they don't have.

What business or profession wants to do death defying work daily with no hope of remuneration????

Obama has absolutely no understanding of economics, or he’d have stopped all visas, all people with passports stamps from the countries, and even medical personnel on commercial flights.

We cannot sustain even a small widespread outbreak of Ebola here. Period. Prevention was the only answer.

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

Re the asking: I had brain surgery two and a half weeks ago and no one asked me anything. That was when everyone was all about the first ebola guy Duncan.

Went for my post op appt a couple days ago, and the first thing they did at Cedars was ask, “Have you been to West Africa?” And then “Have you been around anyone who has?”

Wonder what they do when someone says yes.

My mother, who is an RN in a local hospital says the day an ebola pt is admitted is the day she QUITS!
The hospitals are NOT equipped to handle them and she will NOT expose herself and her family to this dreaded disease that Obama brought to America.

Why does this feel like a set up? What democrat operative gave this story idea to an editor somewhere? And for what purpose?

They must lose a ton of money on each Ebola patient they treat. Who is paying Thomas Duncan’s bill?

It was ludicrous for Texas Presbyterian to have to intubate Patient Zero, aka Thomas Duncan.

He was not only intubated, but given dialysis treatment as his kidneys failed. Having to perform these invasive interventions placed his caregivers at even greater risk.

What's more, at the point these procedures were performed, it was probably already clear to doctors treating Duncan that his case was hopeless.

Yet doctors and hospital administrators likely believed they MUST perform the interventions -- or be accused of racism.

Just made an appointment this morning and this is what my confirmation now has on the bottom.

We at ********* take the real, but low, risk of Ebola transmission very seriously. Please answer the following questions for us immediately:

Have you been to Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria, or Sierra Leone?

Have you been near persons or remains of persons with Ebola or health
care workers caring for an Ebola patient?

And are you having symptoms - fever 100.4 and any of the following: headache, muscle aches, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, bleeding? If you answered yes to any of these questions, please call or message us so we may help you.

They would probably freak if I actually informed them I do have some of the symptoms, but then again I often have them.

I have been asked at my doctors and when I went for my sleep study if I had been out of the country or in contact. The symptoms list is new.

The new appointment is hopefully just about my anemia but who knows what will be discovered this time.

Trying hard to stay out of the hospital.
