Agree 100% and think you really nailed it. Any idea how we can help if we don’t speak Spanish?

Did you just get a job with the Chamber of Commerce? You’re sounding very GOPe this morning.

“largely-Christian and very religious demographic”

Please rethink. Several LatAm countries have abortion and sodomitical marriage. Chile and Ecuador are the only counterexample I can think of (Belize doesn’t count).

I think the fundamental problem is educating ANY citizen about the power of personal responsibility, freedom and free markets, and the failures of socialism.

Why do so many Jews vote Democratic? Blacks? Women? They vote for “intent” but pay no attention to the results.

I’m not sure it has as much to do with demographic as it does education and learning to think rationally for oneself. Maybe even just paying attention.

Are Latinos/Mexicans particularly ripe for the message? Perhaps, I’m not sure.

Should we try to win them over? Certainly. Focusing on a large, growing demographic makes sense.

I agree with Hispanics being amenable to conservatism.

We need to provide the persuasion and leadership. Just like in the "women's movement" and the "black movement" the self anointed leaders of the Hispanic movement are just self aggrandizing con artists willing to sell their influence to the highest bidder.

Immigrant hispanics especially illegals seem to want big government.

The best bet is to recruit first and second generation Hispanics. I would think that they like the rest of us would want small government.

That's why the Democrats want amnesty. Our current rates of immigration will not swamp us with Democrat voters.

But I do appreciate your effort. Hope it works.

We will know that Hispanics have become predominantly conservative when the media gives up treating them like a separate race and instead starts lumping them in with “whites”.

Reagan knew about what you did here. They grabbed the Hispanic vote for the GOP.

One thing he used was the Small Business Administration to give out grants to new start ups. Immigrants tend to want to establish their own businesses buy lack the investment funds.

They also made clear that dems were lumping Hispanics racially with the Black welfare/race baiting crowd. Older Hispanics, who have not been brainwashed by libs are not crazy about the hate for power game.

They tend to have fled from countries that embrace socialism and police-state tactics on the part of the government.

How do you think that government got there? The phrase "Californication" comes to mind.
They vote in a socialist government and move here, then repeat the process.

Democrats are extremely effective at stoking the “hate whitey” impulse, but with Hispanics it is not insurmountable. A recent Texas pill showed that nearly half of Hispanics plan on voting for the republican candidate for governor.

Can the fundamental concepts found in the Constitution and Declaration of Independence be translated with the subtleties of the semantics involved?

I will grant that there are those who innately understand the concept of liberty, and of freedom, but the little things like: should vs. may vs. must vs. shall all subtly different in meaning might get lost in translation.

Ingles solamente, por favor!

Laz,

This past Thursday I talked with a contractor, Cuban, who told me in unambiguous words that Cubans want those government checks.

All G*d’s Chillun like free government cheese.

And, like mice, they eventually get “The Snap:.

I suggest Hispanics will vote for that check rather than the Constitution.

Unless, and until, government if forbidden to do charity, Americans will channel their “Inner Mouse” and vote for government cheese.

Sorry I couldn’t offer any more encouragement regarding Hispanic voters.

Good points. The MSM always says they vote 80% democrat. . a constant drumroll. Now wouldn't that be something if they turn full on conservative in a generation. The potential is there. As others have said, we have a lot of work to do. Education is the key.

I live in an area that is heavily Hispanic, and increasingly so. I see them leave early in the morning to get to work as laborers, not office workers. I see them dress up for church on Sundays. I see massive kids’ birthday parties. I see them take care of each other and each other’s kids. Actually, that aspect far outshines my former “lily white suburb,”

As a test, I recently took a long walk through a garden apartment complex that I’d estimate is 80% Hispanic, and posted flyers for the local Republican running for Congress on a bulletin board in each building’s lobby. (maybe 20-30 buildings).

I’m not too sure how many vote, but I think they need to know that the R’s are not just writing them off. And, even if THEY don’t vote, their kids one day will.

Democrats BUY their voters with OUR money. It’s their SOP. The Hispanics are easily purchased. I say that from experience having worked with them for fifty + years. You are correct about work ethic, religion, etc., but they are easily purchased.

The best thing for us to do is get back the reins, disembowel the Leftist, the Democrat handiwork of a hundred years by eliminating the unconstitutionally designated departments under the Executive Branch, and of course the bureaucracies staffing those departments. Fire ‘em all. Get rid of them, and there go a few million Democrat voters, and their unions. So what they’re primarily minorities. That’s why the Dems packed them into those bureaucracies was to make it difficult to fire them, ‘cause they are minorities. I say “Damn the torpedoes......” Get the economy rolling, and they will all find new jobs.

Lots more to it, but that’s a start.

A couple of good books that reinforce the point you are making were written by Michael Barone. One is Shaping Our Nation and the other is The New Americans: How the Melting Pot Can Work Again.

Barone is a Republican author and commentator who writes the Almanac of American Politics every two years.
