Since 2011, France has enforced a so-called burka ban on Muslims covering their faces in public, making it the first European country to take such measures against publicly-demonstrated Islamic dress codes. About five million Muslims live in France.
Offenders in and around Paris usually receive a fine, but on Oct. 3, the ban reached a new level of enforcement, as a Muslim woman was kicked out of the Bastille Opera house after refusing to uncover her face. Performers of La Traviata didnt notice the woman until the second act, at which point they refused to continue performing until she was removed, reports Mad World. The shows director, Jean-Philippe Thiellay, said that the security guard first informed the woman of the ban and then asked her to either uncover her face or leave. This was the first known instance of a burka-ban offender being kicked out of an artistic venue.
After news of this incident, Frances Ministry of Culture has vowed to institute a new set of rules to make sure that the ban will be strictly enforced in public institutions, like museums and theaters.
Its interesting that France has made such a strong statement against this public display of religious orientation. The U.S. has not implemented a similar ban because of First Amendment considerations, even in the face of escalating threats from radical Islamists. But theres nothing that guarantees anyone the right to practice his religion on someone elses property, so maybe following Frances lead on this one in the private sector is a better way to go than walking on politically correct eggshells. We Americans seem seem to be experts at that when it comes to all things Islam.
Strange days indeed when the French (the FRENCH!) have more balls than America.
Agree. Islam is a political system masquerading as a religion
Whatever...,
Maybe you should start by talking to the baker who is being crushed by the gay mafia for refusing to bake a cake to celebrate their sodomite sham marriage.
Who?
The French or the muzzies?
I’ve read about how they must bow to their customers religion (or lack thereof) and not follow their own. Try rereading my post.
Confederate flag is a completely separate issue, but I think reasonable people could be offended by it. 350,000 U.S. soldiers died in the civil war to preserve the union. Fair to say it was a pretty divisive period in our history. 300,000 rebels soldiers were killed too and out of respect for my Freeper friends from the South, I should probably not discount them entirely. But rebel battle flags, yeah they can be offensive to some.
Quite a few blacks fought for the Confederacy. It was their battle flag, too. Blacks pretending to be offended by the Confederate flag are just playing racist politics.
And why did you call them, "bitches"?
BS! It's because our "representatives" represent Saudi concerns first!
“La Traviata”
Odd, just five minutes ago I was listening to a recording of Siempre Libera: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QnKuht1ST-I
And if instrumental music is your thing, there is the haunting and evocative overture: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=53x5zwEp3cY

La Traviata
The very first opera I ever experienced. At a dress rehearsal.
It was a major learning moment for me, at 11 years of age.
Vive la France!
Charles Martel’s spiritual heirs. Viva la France!
One has to really hate women to oppose a ban on Islamic head-sacks.
Islam doctrinally intends to subvert the Constitution, using "free exercise" for themselves to destroy it for everybody else. They are therefore not a party to the social contract that is the Constitution, choosing not to allow others equal status before the law among "we the people." They are therefore undeserving of Constitutional protections.
