Michael Zehaf-Bibeau has been identified by Canadian officials to their American counterparts as the suspected gunman, multiple U.S. officials told CNN.
The gunman was killed after two shooting incidents -- one at the Canada War Memorial, and another just minutes later nearby inside Parliament.
Bibeau, who was born in 1982, was a convert to Islam and had a history of drug use before he converted, two sources said.
Investigators haven't provided any possible motives for the shooting.
The violence at Parliament comes just days after Canada raised its terror alert Friday.
The suspect in Monday's vehicle attack, Martin Rouleau Couture, reportedly converted to Islam about a year ago. Police arrested him last July and confiscated his passport, but lacked enough evidence to keep him in custody, said Martine Fontaine of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

Don’t find many recent converts to Christianity experiencing sudden jihad syndrome.

And isn’t it great that Canada has strict gun control laws? /s
A heinous evil attack and will continue to work with Canada to counteract violent extremism. So saith our secretary of state John Kerry. Can you say terrorism.
As in Mumbai, the handler, gently talked them through the massacre in the hotel and in the mall, I would not doubt there was someone instructing, encouraging, and witnessing.
A construction worker told CNN that he saw the gunman cross the street after he shot the reservist corporal and then commandeer a car, throwing the motorist out into the street. And then made he made his way towards Center Block. This was, I think East Block. ( I heard this from a Canadian reporter earlier too.)
The construction worker then sought cover on the other side of the wall, that did not belong to parliament, when he saw another man, with a scarf, similar to the gunman, white with blue and black patterns, bundled up with his skin and hair covered, watching what was going on. But while everyone else was freaking out, he looked on calmly. And then he ran off in the direction of the parliament.
They terrorist probably knew that the 90 known terrorist that were tagged, would not be followed with a detail, which would make sense, so rather than fall back, they sprung into action, before the Canadian intel and law enforcement agencies could justify more real time surveillance.
And apparently it worked.
There need to be several steps taken to stop this crap from happening again in America, Europe, Russia, and Australia and other western countries.
1. Define Islam as a threat on several levels to Western civilization and outlaw it completely.
2. Force the closure of all mosques immediately and demo them.
3. Deport all Muslims to any Islamic hellhole of their choice and send them away on water-borne ships. All visas from those countries are never to be issued under any circumstances.
4. No diplomatic relations of any kind.
5. No trade of any kind with them.
6. Only restore relations once they have given up Islam and converted to another religion of their choosing.
7. End all teaching of Islam in public, private and parochial schools.
Also, would he be the kind of planner that would know this was the day that the weekly caucuses met, when both parties would gather in their respective rooms, at the same time? He seemed to know where the highest concentration of lawmakers were meeting. And for effect, that would be extreme terrorism.
And being French and Algerian, might make him hostile to the Ottawan government, and he would have been chosen because the drug-addled, have long been used as tools, pliable for violence and suicide.
Andy Kaufman?
He was probably ‘converted’ in prison... that needs to stop.
I see an uncanny resemblance....now that you mention it.
