Mr Harper made an excellent speech to the Australian Parliament a few years ago in which he observed that several dozen Canadians died n NYC on 9/11.I guess the savagery we’ve seen in the last couple of days is part of the price a nation pays for being both civilized and free.

We have a similar provision in our Constitution (derived from English Common Law), but “taking the fifth” is not an option when somebody else is being prosecuted. Under the Canada Evidence Act, a witness can be compelled to incriminate himself when testifying in a case but that testimony cannot be used against him.
