So Karl Rove was involved in a cover-up. Well, leave it to Karl -- the boy genius and the architect -- to orchestrate a cover-up that actually hides information exculpatory to his President and his party. He did just that on the issue of Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMDs) in Iraq. This is not an outlier either -- this is just Rove being Rove. And Rove being Rove has sewn the seeds of destruction that gave us Barack Obama in 2008, and again in 2012, and has scattered political germs that still haunt Republicans to this day. This goes back to late 2000 in fact. More on that later.
So in case you missed it, the New York Times ran an eight part expose on WMDs and The Daily Beast ran a well-sourced piece entitled Insiders Blame Rove for Covering Up Iraqs Real WMDs that chronicles a Rove-inspired cover up. You might remember the little kerfuffle the nation got into when ostensibly no weapons were found? You know, Bush lied, people died and all of that? It helped run George W. Bushs administration right into the ground, and he took the Republican brand with him. Yes, Hurricane Katrina was a major factor too, but again, that was related to Rove being Rove as well -- and more on that later, too.
The WMD issue was one of the major public relations snafus of the Bush Administration, and the whole effort in the War on Terror. And the costs of these mistakes are catastrophic and still mounting.

As you’ll see in the article, I do not let GWB off the hook at all.
Remember though, GWB is not all over Fox News, not asking for Super PAC donations, not running political ads and not giving political advice. Rove is.
Time will tell that Karl Rove was an unmitigated disaster for this country.
A dumbass lib that I have to work with who will take any opposite position I take even ones that I pretend to believe actually defended Rove yesterday.
His position, Rove was a genius that got Bush elected twice even after the whole illegal war.
I don’t even argue that point anymore.
The fact that Saddam helped the 9/11 terrorists, and paid terrorists familiesand wasn’t there an airplane he let them train on?
Anyone want to help me destroy this moron just send me a list.
I was really cheering you on until I got to your non sequitor at the end. Really, I appreciate the history of the quotes. Great job.
How do you still cling to your bitter "there's a huge difference between the parties" idiotic meme, when the clear evidence, which I cited in my post, shows just the opposite?
You really think there is a material difference between the RINOcrat Uniparty and the Democrats? I will grant you that there is a slight difference in that the Republicans do have a few conservatives in their ranks, where as the Democrats have none.
But as you can see, the GOPe is doing everything it can to make sure those conservatives can't get anything done, and works to defeat them in the primaries.
I do wish so-called conservatives would get their heads out of their butts and look at reality.
I will predict that with the RINOs in charge of the Senate between now and 2016, we will get another RINO loser presidential candidate in 2016.
Can you say President Hillary (or worse, President Warren?)
Yes, that was an excellent point, and I noted it right away. Rove continues to be dangerous. GW continues to watch the cows on his ranch (or whatever he does.)
The sad thing is that I always liked Pres Bush and VP Cheney.
Especially Cheney....I cannot see how he’d be so dumb as to fall for this.
Perhaps Karl Rove’s wealth is dependent on the Democrats somehow? He acts like a Democrat operative. His efforts benefit Democrats and their Republican sycophants.
I don't think he did. He was just out ranked. I also am led to believe that he and Rove never liked each other. Rove was willing to trash Cheney and Rummy - thinking it would shield Bush. Another of his mental failings.
Actually it has been a Republican tactic since before Rove.It seems inherent in the brand.
Until we get Republican leaders who will at least defend themselves, conservatism will never be able to stop the centrifugal forces pushing the Republic over the brink.
The consistency and ubiquity of the malevolence naturally brings conspiracy theories to the fore.
There is certainly a difference between Republicans and Democrats. Democrats are actively evil. Republicans are only passively evil.
There is certainly a difference between Republicans and Democrats. Democrats are aggressively totalitarian. Republicans are less aggressive.
My daughters knew how much I liked VP Cheney, so when he was in the area in the 2008 election, they got a signed photo from him for me. I have it proudly hung still.
I was a real BushBot, and I defended him over everything but amnesty and Dubai Ports. I even was willing to overlook Harriet Miers if the consensus was she would be the only one who could make it through confirmation. It turned out that she wasn’t, and that she was the one likely not to win confirmation, so we were spared any long-lasting embarrassment.
And then those crucial years when report after report of WMDs surfaced and no push back. And then one known to me and trustworthy reported eyewitness experience with multiple found WMDs. My regard for Pres. Bush continued in other areas, but on this one I was sure he was wrong.
Cheney was loyal, but I can’t imagine him suffering stupidity in silence.
Maybe they are running with it as a distraction from Ebola and other Obama muck UPS.
I meant 2004 election when Cheney was in area. Gosh how time flies.
This is very true - and in my book, I start the timeline at 1992 - 8 years before Rove was a major player on the national scene. I could have started at almost any place, but some things changed in 92 on both sides regarding campaigning styles.
That said, we are now prisoners of 2000-2008 still - Rove is a major reason why and he's still trying to be a major player.
Maybe Rove and the “Republican consultant class” are just more left-wing plants. A fifth column that weakens the Republican conservative movement through sabotage.
And you can add the following little piece of malfeasance to the resume of Karl Rove!
He’s the very guy who INSISTED that social security reform be taken up ahead of tax reform in the Bush administration!
Yeah! he’s genius alright!
