UPPER MARLBORO Md. (Reuters) - President Barack Obama made a rare appearance on the campaign trail on Sunday with a rally to support the Democratic candidate for governor in Maryland, but early departures of crowd members while he spoke underscored his continuing unpopularity.
With approval levels hovering around record lows, Obama has spent most of his campaign-related efforts this year raising money for struggling Democrats, who risk losing control of the U.S. Senate in the Nov. 4 midterm election.
Most candidates from his party have been wary of appearing with him during their election races because of his sagging popularity.
Not so Lieutenant Governor Anthony Brown of Maryland, who is running for governor, and Governor Pat Quinn of Illinois, who is running for re-election. Obama plans to appear at an event for Quinn later in the evening.
"You've got to vote," Obama repeated over and over at a rally for Brown in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, near Washington.
Democrats have a history of not turning up to vote in midterm elections.
"There are no excuses. The future is up to us," Obama said.
A steady stream of people walked out of the auditorium while he spoke, however, and a heckler interrupted his remarks.

It is perfectly appropriate that Obama’s campaign rally for the disgraceful Illinois Governor (Quinn) will be held on the campus of a grossly mismanaged state university that has a plummeting enrollment and abysmal graduation rates, but it is a useful patronage plantation for corrupt Democrats in the ghetto community that Obama failed to organize. The university has a president who has been called a liar by a judge in a wrongful discharge case that will cost the taxpayers millions. The university provost has been accused of plagiarizing her doctoral dissertation and the president seems to find a six figure position for every one of his former lady friends on the public payroll with or without qualifications. When the former board of trustees tried to oust the university president, Quinn stepped in to bail out the crook because he wanted votes from the South Side. The academic hell hole is Chicago State University and it has been operated by the Democrats as well as the City of Detroit. Loot, grab, steal and pilfer. Too bad the Obama Presidential Library is not on campus. It would be fitting.
Anthony Brown is black, which may be why he is willing to have Obama appear together with himself. He’s also a colonel in the US Army Reserve and served in Iraq where he earned a Bronze Star.
They will still vote for the Democrat.

i’m surprised the democrats haven’t pushed for obama to show up at republican events. if they were really diabolically smart they would.
This is amazing. First, written by Reuters; secondly, that rally was in Prince Georges County, MD. It’s the largest, most affluent African American county in the US. Obama probably carried with @ 98% of the vote.

I think you are right. A couple of my friends who are Oklahoma Democrats - thus they tend to be Christian conservatives, poor misguided souls vote Democrat - which is an enigma! They send me emails all the time putting President Obola down. They can’t stand him. They see the light on what he is doing to America. But they can’t wait to vote for Hillary! ugh.....
I thought I had them switching parties, but they just hate Obola. I have noticed that Oklahoma Democrats tend to be very racist against blacks, native Americans, and hispanics. They use the “n” word all the time, but not in public. They are closet racists.
