UPPER MARLBORO Md. (Reuters) - President Barack Obama made a rare appearance on the campaign trail on Sunday with a rally to support the Democratic candidate for governor in Maryland, but early departures of crowd members while he spoke underscored his continuing unpopularity.
With approval levels hovering around record lows, Obama has spent most of his campaign-related efforts this year raising money for struggling Democrats, who risk losing control of the U.S. Senate in the Nov. 4 midterm election.
Most candidates from his party have been wary of appearing with him during their election races because of his sagging popularity.
Not so Lieutenant Governor Anthony Brown of Maryland, who is running for governor, and Governor Pat Quinn of Illinois, who is running for re-election. Obama plans to appear at an event for Quinn later in the evening.
"You've got to vote," Obama repeated over and over at a rally for Brown in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, near Washington.
Democrats have a history of not turning up to vote in midterm elections.
"There are no excuses. The future is up to us," Obama said.
A steady stream of people walked out of the auditorium while he spoke, however, and a heckler interrupted his remarks.

I thought the secret service “locked down” locations where the president appears beginning before he arrives and continuing until after he leaves.

In a very few Blue States, Obama is still well received.
His popularity though is underwater in the rest of the country. Democratic candidates don’t want him anywhere near their campaigns.
Even in Maryland and Illinois, voter enthusiasm is at an all-time low. Sucks to be Obama.
Heard Michelle Obama do a radio spot this morning for Anthony Brown. She told listeners how “vitally important” it was for “everyone” to “go to the polls and vote on November 4th.”
I assume by “everyone” she was implying the majority black community in neighboring Prince George’s County, Maryland.

Don’t confuse us with Chicago. In my part of the state he’s only slightly more popular than head lice.
I live here in the State of Maryland and unless you are working for Uncle Sugar(the federal government) or getting federal benefits, then Maryland is not the State for you! Anyone with the money to move has done so and even many of the government workers have abandon the State for nearby Virginia with DC now warehousing their Section 8 cases in Maryland. Brown is not doing well because he and the Golden Boy O’Malley have run out of other people’s money to spend in order to buy votes.
Gotta be a typo. Republicans have to hide their party affiliation in MD.
