Probably hoping to get into Peggy’s knickers.
I usually never listen to talk radio. I have been listening a lot since the ebola issue came about. So, with limited exposure I make this comment: Everyone on talk radio is rude. They are smart. But they are rude. Rude to callers. Rude about everybody but themselves. Sure they like some people. But they are often rude even about the people they like.
Don’t get me wrong. I am thankful for talk radio. But it is hard for me to listen to some nervous caller get ripped apart just because he is having trouble making his point.
I think rude sells and they have a lot of time to fill. If they do not get people riled up then people might switch stations.
Hey, I prefer it to Glenn Beckster’s strident liberalism.
Savage may be a self-aggrandizing grouch, but you can always rely on him to go where the other hosts and popular figures refuse to go. He will call a spade a spade. Sometimes he goes too far off the edges, but I have to say he is an interesting listen.
And I really disliked him in the beginning.
You are FOS.
In 20 years of listening, I have never heard Rush be rude to any caller.
I don’t need an echo chamber, and I already have direct access to virtually all the same material any of the talkers prep with. Rush is smart and articulate and often provides an interesting slant on things, and is a good spokesman for conservatism in the Bill Buckley tradition. So he’s often worth listening to for part of the first hour, where he’ll cover his best stuff. The rest are boring, uninteresting, and yes, rude, and I won’t miss any of them as they finally disappear. Hannity is a true idiot, Levin’s voice is like nails on a chalkboard, and Savage is the worst.
Who *does* he like (other than himself)?
Lookit, I realize nobody’s opinion is as intelligent or as informed as my own, but there are at least a couple of people for whom I do have some modicum of respect.
Well I was not listening to Rush. I told you it was limited exposure. The one I was most surprised to hear was Mark Levin. I have read stuff by him and really liked it. But he was brutal to callers. It made me sad. I would be scared to call him.
Rush is actually the most cordial of the hosts. People seem to think because he trolls Obama on some racial issues that he is a mean person.
It is like Steve King from Iowa because he has certain quotes attributed to him. He doesn’t shout or rant and rave at people or even on the house floor.
Ted Baxter's (BO) known to use the above technique as well.
Another thing he tends to do is try to insult Rush Limbaugh or Mark Levin in public with hopes that he will be mentioned the next day on their radio program and get the free advertisement. Rush already has him pegged on this. One time a caller mentioned Michael Savage's name on Rush's program and Rush responded with "Savage, wasn't he a wrestler on WWF?"
“... Everyone on talk radio is rude ...”
“... I was not listening to Rush ...”
-
Then you should not paint with such a broad brush.
He takes calls at 2:52 PM when he doesn't have time to either talk or listen, these people wait for hours. These people are cut short by additional ads for Rush to "pad" his wallet for.
Just chill. Everyone on the station I listened to was rude. My comment was not meant to be a legal court document.
I have heard Rush be rude. I used to watch him on TV. But I was not talking about him. Nor was he rude in the same pointless way.
Is there a Fox Radio station? That might be what I was listening to.
Overall it seemed to me that rude was just a style of entertainment. It certainly did not help them make their points.
Really?
I have.
The only time I’ve heard Rush categorically be rude - and rightfully so, is when a caller lies to Snerdley, and gets on with false pretenses - then tries to bait Rush into something that Media Matters can quote him on.
I’d have ZERO patience with that as well.
I like Savage. He beats Hannity anyday. I think he’s quite entertaining, smart and funny. He’s only on 2 hours too, which I like better than 3.
If conservative radio’s not your thing - turn off the radio...
I usually do. I just wanted to hear what they were saying about ebola.
Don’t get me wrong, it beats NPR all to heck.
