"Did you really think we want those laws observed?" said Dr. Ferris. "We want them to be broken. You'd better get it straight that it's not a bunch of boy scouts you're up against... We're after power and we mean it... There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What's there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced or objectively interpreted and you create a nation of law-breakers and then you cash in on guilt. Now that's the system, Mr. Reardon, that's the game, and once you understand it, you'll be much easier to deal with." - Ayn Rand, 1957 -
Ping!
The story missed, $40 million stripped from the public.
People aren’t speeding??
They must be punished.
Raise their taxes!
Hey Rahm!
Fire your Union hack cronies and you’ll save $100 MILLION!
Photo radar has NOTHING to do with safety and EVERYTHING to do with revenue enhancement.
The same goes for red light cameras and any other automated “law enforcement”.
Yet the powers that be and the police wonder why they are losing credibillity and respect from the public...
They can just resort to bogus police stops and civil forfeiture.
They never are, but that's always how they're sold.
*Apologies to any fine, upstanding, disease-carrying vermin for associating them with Chicago Demonicrats.
They could make up the shortfall by ditching the camera scheme.
Laws are established to maintain order. Full stop. They are enacted to punish citizens or reap financial benefits. Every pol involved with these speed cameras should be forced to run across the Dan Ryan Expressway at rush hour.
There have been a plethora of red Light Cameras installed in Broward County at the cost of millions of dollars.
Now, studies are showing an increase of bad accidents, as some motorists slam on the brakes on yellow, causing others to violently rear-end them, and several others behind becoming involved as well. That, and the money spent to combat litigation from a whole new classification of lawyers who see this as a chance to make money.
These cameras were never installed to save lives. They are unabashedly meant for revenue and are failing miserably in their quest.
A lot of them are being removed.
This completely corrupt administration deserves it.
Haha this Chicagoan is lmao at this
Lawyer Harvey Silverglate's 2011 book, "Three Felonies a Day", shows how Ayn Rand prescient vision is being borne out in today's society. Of course the modern key for prosecutors now is having case law so riddled with ambiguity as to allow prosecution almost at whim. Governor Rick Perry in Texas is finding this out but I think his prosecution is being amply demonstrated to be animus on a political scale. Still the absolute best defense of anybody coming to the attention of the legal system is to hire the best lawyer and say nothing until he says so.
Next: just pull them over and invoke civil forfeiture. It’s the socialist way—armed theft.
In Kentucky they are concerned about safety. When a light switches from yellow to red, the cross traffic red light turns green after approximately one second.
We have no cameras.
The lion’s share of tickets written at Chicago by these camera sites are for california stops before making a free right. That is not the safety issue for which they are sold to the public.
All government is no longer working for the people but are filling their pockets with spoils from stupid traps.
Having received parking citations from the Windy City, and having heard the long stories from our kids who live downtown(the city towed their car without notice or cause, lost it, and then charged massive impound fees) I can tell you they are looking for any opportunity to collect revenue. Out of staters are like tasty fresh meat to the machine.
