Ebola-stricken nurse Nina Pham's condition was downgraded to fair on Friday, according to doctors at the National Institutes of Health.
The 26-year-old nurse, who contracted Ebola while caring for Thomas Duncan at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital, was previously described as being in a good condition on Thursday.
According to the American Hospital Association's scale used to describe a patient's health, a 'fair condition' is listed as worse than a 'good condition'.
Dr Anthony Fauci, head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said at a briefing outside the Maryland hospital on Friday that Miss Pham was in a 'fair, stable condition and resting comfortably'.
He did not describe further details of her condition due to patient confidentiality but said she still had Ebola symptoms.
Dr Fauci denied that Miss Pham was deteriorating adding that she is sitting up, talking with staff and eating.
Miss Pham, 26, broke down in tears on Thursday night when saying goodbye to her doctors in Dallas
Dr Fauci added that the nurse is getting 'optimum, intensive care' but said she is extremely fatigued because Ebola 'knocks you out'.
The doctor described the nurse as 'a trooper' adding that she was being cared for round-the-clock by a specialized team of doctors and nurses.

Well, when you read the entire story it sounds like the downgrade was just a difference in assessment from one hospital to another. They specifically said her condition has not worsened.
Dr Fauci denied that Miss Pham was deteriorating ...
Huh?
Imagine the laws suits coming for bad advice and direction on the hospital’s part.
Just great. Thanks Obola.
If the Kenyan was serious about an "Ebola czar", why didn't he appoint Dr. Anthony Fauci. I trust this guy. From what I've heard from him on FOX, he appears to be a straight shooter and not a bull**** artist like Klain.
Imagine the laws suits coming for bad advice and direction on the CDC’s part.
Fixed it.
Fauci is a political hack!
The video of Nina yesterday broke my heart, she is such a beautiful young lady who did everything RIGHT..she didnt expose her family, the only person quarantined is her boyfriend and her dog Bentley, who is her whole life she adores that pooch. Praying that Nina recovers, Ebola is a HORRIBLE HORRIBLE disease and it takes a lot out of you..every time I see that video Im reminded that this is ALL OBAMA’S FAULT
Hauling her off to Maryland might have had something to do with any decline. Or, it could be that some deterioration was expected and a better-equipped facility was required.
I’m really hoping she makes it.
It would be nice to see that donated blood begin to pay off.
Hell, I’d like to see some fresh faced 27 year old intern rather than the guy that was chosen.
Virtually no civilian hospital was/is prepared to deal with a level 4 biohazard.
Look up level 4 containment requirements. Hospitals aren’t even close.
Agreed. This sounds like more reporting from this morning's press conference where another doctor said "she is "doing quite well compared to what we were told about her status at the other hospital.".
I haven't found an update and there may not be one until tomorrow a.m.
Anybody with ebola who is eating is doing very well. She also looked good in the video yesterday.
I get the impression that authorities are very reluctant to admit that patients under treatment aren’t steadily improving. Afraid it’ll add to the “panic,” I guess?
Dr Fauci denied that Miss Pham was deteriorating
Well which is it?
I wondered from the beginning why she wasn’t moved to a Level 4 containment facility.
It broke my heart as well.
I have been curious as to why we haven’t heard about the second nurse. Finally, on the news tonight they said she wasn’t doing as well as Nina.
Pure politics. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ron_Klain
He and Obama have the Harvard Law Review in common, among other things (i.e. Biden and Gore). I doubt this guy could find his way out of a closet, so how in the hell is he going to “coordinate” the Ebola “response”? Just another Obama mouthpiece.
