Two years ago, Mother Jones published a "Guide to Mass Shootings in America," which claimed to show that such slayings happen more often now than in the past. The feature, whose data have been updated periodically since it first went up, has been both widely cited and harshly disputed. This week the outlet has published a new analysis claiming that mass shootings occur far more frequently than they did several decades ago and that the rate has tripled since 2011. Whether you buy that depends on whether you buy into the previous piece, because the new article has essentially the exact same flaws.

No, but the amount of false flags have gone up....
M.F. Jones should only be printed here as a joke. Not for serious content.
The single biggest root cause is the ACLU. They threatened Regan and he began the release of the loon’s from the looney bin.
There are plenty of others and the bulk point back to the liberals.
Hell, Obama is trying to kill us all in the latest Ebola crisis. The libs are the embodiment of the devil himself.
It was bad enough when we had to listen to the moonbats whining about “false flags”, now we have to hear it from our own side.
I think an interesting analysis would be to plot the number of mass shootings alongside the growth of “gun-free zones” to see if there is a correlation.
The government needs to confiscate the guns so that the public will “voluntarily” go to the Ebola treatment centers.
It’s for your own good.
The question asked: “Is that true?”
I don’t believe it but does anyone have a verifiable answer to the question??
As with unemployment figures, the CPI, and global temperatures, they've changed the definition of what constitutes a mass shooting, so...which set of metrics for comparison do you want to go with? Apples to penguins, or vending machine gum to the mystical feeling one gets when walking in the woods of Germany?
You can play games with data to make the answer yes but that is like my saying that 100% of people will have homemade french onion soup tonight.
As long as I eliminate from the data set every one who does not live with me the statement is true.
Silly lefties. Like Dan Rather and non-Democrats, anything they say about the right to keep and bear firearms is negative.
Arming America: The Origins of a National Gun Culture is a discredited 2000 book by Michael A. Bellesiles on American gun culture. The book is an expansion of a 1996 Journal of American History article that uses falsified research to argue that guns were uncommon during peacetime in early United States and that a culture of gun ownership arose only much later.
They have spread so many lies and falsehoods, they simply cannot be trusted to tell the truth about anything. And since Mother Jones is the mother of all lying leftist publications, its word should be doubted automatically.
An oddly self-biasing question.
The very term “mass shooting” inherently rejects any situation which would have been except for the would-be mass-shooter being stopped before casualties reached the “mass” stage.
Could be true but I’ll bet they don’t look into how many were perpetrated by lefties.
I read 92% were done in gun free or extremely restrictive environments. The real proof is when they off themselves when challenged by an armed person.
More Muslims = more killings.
Put a Muslim in the White House = de facto support of Muslim terrorists.
