Well, Freepers. We have the winners.
I am definitely of the mindset to look for an opportunity to yank your ace in game 1 and do game 3, game 7.
but I am a fan at home ... I wonder how much it was discussed pregame by Bochy. If it’s 10-0 in the 3rd, it’s a done deal. At 5-0, they did not. There was some point, that was the break point.
I do not see such opportunites tonite ...
1. Peavy is game 2 and 6 regardless ... they won’t bring him back for game 4 by pulling him a blowout. His age disallows it.
2. Ventura maybe. But I see no incentive to bump Vargas and do a 3-man rotation. Vargas is a quality guy.
Bumgarner was at 53 pitches thru 3rd.
pull him.
he was at 67 thru 4th inning. pull him.
is the flaw in my argument that coming back in game 3 ... that 53 pitches is too many to come back on FRI? short short rest. That is Lonborg rest.

KC was at 7.5% going to the bottom of the 4th. Granted, the minute it happens, KC % goes up with Bumgarner out of the game. But those charts are have no bias taking into account who is in the game, who is batting, etc. They are unsophisticated.
good move my Yost to go to the 3 relievers in the 6th ...
off day tomorrow ... urgent situation.
Good game last night...
Royals looked like they want to win... nice pitching from Yordano Ventura. Guy’s got a cannon for an arm, and great control.
Had to laugh at Giant’s Jake Peavey cussing himself out on the mound, and the microphone picking it up... he’s a good pitcher, just wound up too tight...
Peavy’s gonna give himself a heart attack on the mound.
Nice win by KC.
I was a bit surprised at Peavy going crazy. I met him at a picnic in the park a few years ago. I had him sign a foul ball I caught the night of his 1000 strikeout. He was incredibly cool and even added 07 Cy Young to the autograph.
He’s a guy I like rooting for. As far as KC goes I think it is clear that Yordano Ventura is the Ace. My dad was asking me why he wasn’t the ace and my only answer was that James Shields is the veteran so he’d get the nod.
Ventura has amazing stuff. It’ll be interesting to watch the next few years if his velocity stays consistent. We’ve seen so many hard throwing pitchers lose velocity over time or end up injuring themselves usually requiring Tommy John surgery.
RE Peavey:
I had to laugh... I coached little league for 13 years... I remember some of my kids doing that too, after messing up.
But hell, I’ve BEEN that pissed myself a few times...
He’s a good pitcher, though. You don’t get Cy Young by being mediocre. Just had an off game...
Peavy’s always struck me as having a hockey player’s mentality - tough SOB on the field, good guy off it.
I’m not surprised he’s nice in person; you get his genuiness when he’s interviewed (at least I do).
One of my nephews ran into David Ortiz ~10 years back in Boston; took a couple minutes to chat with him.
He hasn’t been “Cy” for a while, but he’s still a gamer with the heart of an ace. I liked having him on the White Sox.
He was cracking me up...
I think Bumgarner and Peavy are going to have to pitch sooner than their rotations to win this thing.
You’ve got to admire that level of motivation, though. He showed up to play, was pumped, and was pissed at himself for not gittin’ it done...
I was glad KC won it, though. Even though I don’t have a dog in the fight, I’d like to see KC take it home..
“... a hockey players mentality...”
Sort of a “Happy Gilmore” on the Mound, ehh? Haha!
RE CY:
Well... he got it, though... that’s the thing. Made that cut. Not many do.
"The Price is WRONG, bitch."
HA!!! Great scene!!
Bob Barker opened a can of Whup Ass!!!
Funny movie...
Peavy came out early. No reason to bring him back before game 6, however. Doesn’t fit.
