'Contrary to conventional advice, eating more of some fats may be good for our health, says Michael Mosley.
It really is the sort of news that made me want to weep into my skinny cappuccino and then pour it down the sink. After years of being told, and telling others, that saturated fat clogs your arteries and makes you fat, there is now mounting evidence that eating some saturated fats may actually help you lose weight and be good for the heart.
Earlier this year, for example, a systematic review, funded by the British Heart Foundation and with the rather dry title "Association of dietary, circulating and supplement fatty acids with coronary risk" caused a stir.
Scientists from Oxford, Cambridge and Harvard, amongst others, examined the links between eating saturated fat and heart disease. Despite looking at the results of nearly 80 studies involving more than a half million people they were unable to find convincing evidence that eating saturated fats leads to greater risk of heart disease.
In fact, when they looked at blood results, they found that higher levels of some saturated fats, in particular a type of saturated fat you get in milk and dairy products called margaric acid, were associated with a lower risk of heart disease.'

I grok what you are saying, but I would like to know what is "processed" food. I mean that if I crush a tomato, it is technically "processed". If this is done in a vat with 200 tomatoes by a machine, it is also "processed". Help me out here.
HCFCs and processed flour mainly.
I don’t drink soda with meals; but I eat my salad, veggies and meat first, then leave any carbs like bread or potatoes till last after I’m full.
Of course, if I go out to a restaurant that serves fresh baked bread the first thing, that method goes out the window.
Fat is good for your brain. BACON!!!
The “science” was settled on fat too...
The only problem was it wasn’t science to begin with...
lol
Is he going to eat that?
Try it this way...
I exercise (weights) three to five days a week. My strength and stamina has improved.
Heck yeah.
‘Specially on a Rib Eye or Prime Rib steak.
Cutting out a bunch of starches and processed foods combined with exercise.
Never a bad recipe. :-)
I do the opposite.
No carbs in AM. Carbs only after a workout later in the day.
Have you heard of John Kiefer “Carb Night” or “Carb Backloading”? Somewhat similar to Martin Birkhan “Leangains”.
had not heard of him by name....or carb night....seems like “carb backloading” sounds familiar.
Time to hit Google....
Here we go again!
“Rib eye steaks - if you grill it just right the entire thing is consumed. Even the fat is super delicious.’
Medium rare, charred on the out side, crisp on the fat, which my grandfather reffered to as the “sweet meat”
“Bacon”
The perfect food, I eat bacon most mornings, I occasionally have sausage or country ham, and we season or vegetables with Bacon or Bacon drippings. Bacon for breakfast, BLT for dinner and a rib eye for supper.
I think its to do with the olive oil in the diet, the Italians and Greeks are the same.
Great thread scotsman, thanks for posting.
I’ll be over for dinner!
You know some freeper a while back said the food pyramid is upside down and it clicked with me.
