Oh, that would be such a fun phone call to get. “Hello, Mrs. smith, were you flying Frontier Air the other day from Ohio? Wonderful, how was your flight? Well, as it so happens, the person sitting two rows up from you but one seat over has come down with Ebola. Have you been around any other people in the last few days? Do you have a thermometer? Great...”

But, look at the bright side, at least you know the CDC isn't going to be limiting your movements, tracking your contacts, or preventing you from getting on a plane.

From link in #4

The patient flew into Cleveland Oct. 10 on Frontier Flight 1142, the airline added.

She was in Cleveland for a few days before. May be many more exposed

If I were into nut job conspiracies, I would think that there is an attempt by a foreign power to infect the entire U.S.

Maybe not a "foreign" power...

It is utterly nonsensical that someone does something like this, knowing they were exposed.

From a disease control standpoint, yes. But supposing they knew they were exposed and wanted to visit family one more time, just in case they were infected.

Sell your Frontier stock, they’re about to go belly up.

We need to remember that we live in an allegedly free country where nobody (except military personnel sometimes) can be forced to keep their jobs if they don’t want them. Given that, I would think long and hard before criticizing and making life even more difficult for those who willingly put themselves in harms way in a US hospital to treat Ebola patients. We might find ourselves in a pandemic with a shortage of healthcare workers willing to treat.

Ban flights now.

We shut down air traffic after 911.

“The answer is no. If it were insect borne, the world would have been battling this decades ago.”

This is the sort of dogma that’s hindering an effective response to this.

The ONLY WAY to answer this question is to set up a fairly simple science experiment (which should have been done months ago) that TESTS THE QUESTION FOR THIS STRAIN OF THE VIRUS.

This virus is different in so many obvious ways. CIDRAP just yesterday was saying that the source of the breakdown in response to this is using what they THOUGHT THEY KNEW about SIMILAR VIRUSES to combat this one.

You don’t know the answer to the question until you conduct an experiment and collect the data. Then you publish the results to national health authorities in other countries and have them conduct the same experiment, and then compare the results.

Absence of evidence is simply not necessary here.

So if he was symptomatic for 3 or 4 days BEFORE he was diagnosed, having visited the ER once and been sent home, this kind of blows the ‘symptomatic people don’t do anything that might endanger others, they’re too sick’ meme doesn’t it?

We know this is true. The doc who called rush. Also, just pure science. There is not a Moment One when you start shedding virus, that happens to be at the exact moment your immune system turns up your temp. Ridiculous.

It has been proven that you can shed and infect someone with a simple stomach virus the day before you come down with it. Yes, you feel just fine, visit and kiss your friend in another city, and then the next day you get sick. He was exposed and might get sick too. Of course there have been zero studies proving the CDC’s claim that the magical moment of symptoms obvious = the first second you could infect others.

DUH, really. How healthy would you feel if you had sex with your spouse and the next morning they had ebola? Common sense. Anyone with compromised immune system on that plane, especially if the touched the same seat top or bathroom door handle as the poor new ebola patient, could have been exposed. And compromised immune system doesn’t only mean CANCER: IT MEANS SOMEONE WHO HADNT HAD ENOUGH SLEEP, SOMEONE WITH A COLD, SOMEONE UPSET (death in family, going through divorce).

Are you kidding? Okay... I'd like a show of hands from people who are still eating their Y2K rations?

There's basically zero chance of exposure on the flight. The guy puking blood on the flight into Nigeria who died a few hours later only infected the woman next to him. There is obviously a nonzero risk for someone sitting next to the Ebola victim, but it is pretty low and basically zero for everyone else.

Further evidence: nobody came down with Ebola from the apartment Duncan stayed in.

No way that these healthcare workers got this virus by any other way but airborne....

They're getting it from their Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when they take it off.

There is ZERO epidemiologic evidence from Africa or from Dallas of airborne transmission.

Close contact did produce these symptoms:

Absence of evidence, in this case, is evidence of absence.

'Settled Science' much ?

Makes perfect sense, because instead of just you dying, you can take out your whole genetic line!!!
