This story is developing. Please check back for further updates.
I am not blaming her for her work; her work as an ICU nurse is incredibly admirable. Way more admirable than what I do for a living.
I am questioning the wisdom of traveling when you’re self-monitoring for a contagious illness. I just feel like we are seeing a TON of lack of common sense on many levels with this outbreak. I’m totally willing to believe she wasn’t told not to travel (how could you even tell these folks not to travel, when we’re letting Liberians travel...), but I feel like everyone involved has been showing in spades what years of sheep-like adherence to the government will do to a society when a crisis hits.
“Yep..... You gotta wonder how Duncan who had Ebola went to a hospital, filled out all of the paperwork, had a medical exam. Opened all the doors, sat in the waiting room, etc etc and no one has caught ebola from that event.”
We don’t know - Dallas mayor just said this will get worse before it gets better. There may be a LOT of cases down there for all we know.
NO risk?
How do you know, no risk?
At this point how do you know if anything your hearing from this administration is the truth.
I think they are keeping this disaster as quiet as they possibly can, but it will explode after the midterm elections.
How much have we actually heard about the people who where staying in Duncan’s apartment. How do we know they are ok?
Its October.
Surprise!!
Ok, maybe they went to visit the ex.
BTW, the CDC did NOT consider the HCW ‘exposed’. They weren’t on any list of exposures prior to the first nurse seroconverting.
Why wouldn’t she have flown?
I am guessing the nurse might have experienced some mild symptoms and flew back early. Odd someone would leave and return so quickly. Stranger still is that the person left at all considering he/she was being monitored! All it takes is mild diarrhea and we know how toilets flush on airplanes, lots of spray. Yikes
Sounds like the same, selfish mindset that patient zero had. Get to the US at all costs for treatment. BTW, wasn’t he staying with family/fiance, child before he erupted with this? Whatever happened to them?
HCW were NOT being monitored. Until the first nurse seroconverted they were not on a list of people under surveillance.
She may have been told to return once the first nurse turned positive.
What good is that gonna do? They were in Clevland up till the day they went symptomatic?!?!
Ahhhh. Soothing.
Thanks Laz.
Why wouldn’t she have flown. CDC didn’t consider any HCW worthy of surveillance prior to the first nurse turning positive.
She probably returned because she was told to. Cleveland clinic may have dodged a bullet this time.
My point is ... if we require everyone who might have treated an Ebola patient at a hospital to self-quarantine and not travel, I’m guessing many of them will say “screw it, it ain’t worth it, I can work at a nursing home until this blows over.” I might in their shoes.
Thanks, they should have been monitored for at least 3 weeks. IMO
This may be the result of an alien invasion from the planet Rityre....... in Dallas for all we know!!!! LOL
Not much since the Jesse Jackson visit. If they were infected they would probably be symptomatic by now (day 17). To hide that from all their friends, relatives, etc and whisk them off to a secret hospital would be quite a trick. I choose to believe the simpler theory that they are not infected and it is not easy to get infected early on. Not zero, but not significant.
An snkppe from my old computer database:
JULY 31, 2002 : (WASHINGTON POST REPORTS THAT THE CIA FOUND IRAQI WEAPONS LAB —— see BLUE NILE) The Washington Post runs a report (Reality is uncertainty,” by Joby Warrick, Washington Post , 31 July 2002) suggesting that the CIA has found a laboratory called Talhaddy, or “Challenge” on the west bank of the Tigris River, employing a team of 85 scientists working on a viral strain code-named Blue Nile. Detail sound similar to Ebola Virus, a lethal hemorrahagic disease.
I thought Frieden said last night that the entire group was under watch.
The dumb just keeps rolling along
