Exclusive: Ebola didn’t have to kill Thomas Eric Duncan, nephew says
Dallas Morning News ^ | October 14, 2014 | by Josephus Weeks

On Friday, Sept. 25, 2014, my uncle Thomas Eric Duncan went to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas. He had a high fever and stomach pains. He told the nurse he had recently been in Liberia. But he was a man of color with no health insurance and no means to pay for treatment, so within hours he was released with some antibiotics and Tylenol.

Two days later, he returned to the hospital in an ambulance. Two days after that, he was finally diagnosed with Ebola. Eight days later, he died alone in a hospital room.

So, here’s the truth about my uncle and his battle with Ebola.

Thomas Eric Duncan was cautious. Among the most offensive errors in the media during my uncle’s illness are the accusations that he knew he was exposed to Ebola — that is just not true.

Thomas Eric Duncan was a victim of a broken system. The biggest unanswered question about my uncle’s death is why the hospital would send home a patient with a 103-degree fever and stomach pains who had recently been in Liberia.

Thomas Eric Duncan could have been saved. From his botched release from the emergency room to his delayed testing and delayed treatment and the denial of experimental drugs that have been available to every other case of Ebola treated in the U.S., the hospital invited death every step of the way.

NPR reported that Duncan carried the woman while she was “bleeding profusely from her mouth”

“She saw him carry the landlord’s pregnant daughter into her house
just days before he left for the United States. The girl was bleeding
profusely from her mouth and could no longer walk, says Seyou.

“Eric helped the family,” she says. “He carried her inside.”

Perhaps someone can suggest a reason why Duncan’s neighbor in Liberia would lie about this; Weeks’ should be obvious.

Duncan knew.

It has been my position for decades that James Earl Ray shot the wrong guy.

Interesting that he left off his continual whine about Duncan not getting a transfusion from a previous ebola survivor.

Dim bulb Ebola dude only has himself to blame for not telling the hospital he is from Liberia and thinks he has Ebola. Instead he prattled on like he had the flu. Odds are a minority nurse at admittance turned him away. This is my bet

The girl will live and there will probably be riots. No matter that she isn’t white, either, but she’s not one of them.

Im sure the “family” is making hay and lots of mullah while the sun of Thomas Eric Duncan still shines (in absentia)

The estate can be sued..the money is in his name..due to his demise etc..

Well, Jo, it's too bad that your uncle didn't die before he arrived in the states.

Duncan was not a US citizen and lied to get here. What does his nephew not understand.

Spot on. But even she should have noticed the west african accent. The “hood” does not tolerate foreign blacks- less they have some dope to sell.

“No Duncan made travel plans when he should have been hospitalized”

Say what? He was healthy when he got here. He figured he had a good chance of getting Ebola, so he came to the best country in the world (for a while longer) to be treated for it. Makes perfect sense to me.

But in the end, I doubt he understood the political ramifications...he could not be permitted to survive here, given how he got here.

Duncan was fully aware he had been exposed to Ebola and was infected

He lied about his exposure to leave Liberia

He again lied about his exposure to enter the US

When he went to the emergency room he lied about his exposure to Ebola endangering the ER patients and Staff

He was provided superb medical treatment in the ER , INCLUDING a CAT Scan despite being a foreign national with no ability to pay. It is worth noting that Duncan's irresponsible lie about his exposure to Ebola potentially contaminated the CAT Scan machine and may have infected any number of patients who used the machine after him.

Duncan was released only after the doctors, who had no idea he was a potential Ebola carrier, ruled out any other cause if his symptoms.

This guy got better ER treatment than any of my family members have received.

In fact, one of my family members just visited the ER with symptoms very similar to Duncans and did not get nearly the same high quality car Duncan got, much less a CAT scan

I'm sick of these dead beat race grifters
