On Friday, Sept. 25, 2014, my uncle Thomas Eric Duncan went to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas. He had a high fever and stomach pains. He told the nurse he had recently been in Liberia. But he was a man of color with no health insurance and no means to pay for treatment, so within hours he was released with some antibiotics and Tylenol.
Two days later, he returned to the hospital in an ambulance. Two days after that, he was finally diagnosed with Ebola. Eight days later, he died alone in a hospital room.
So, heres the truth about my uncle and his battle with Ebola.
Thomas Eric Duncan was cautious. Among the most offensive errors in the media during my uncles illness are the accusations that he knew he was exposed to Ebola that is just not true.
Thomas Eric Duncan was a victim of a broken system. The biggest unanswered question about my uncles death is why the hospital would send home a patient with a 103-degree fever and stomach pains who had recently been in Liberia.
Thomas Eric Duncan could have been saved. From his botched release from the emergency room to his delayed testing and delayed treatment and the denial of experimental drugs that have been available to every other case of Ebola treated in the U.S., the hospital invited death every step of the way.

Yeah, this guy hasn’t gone to Med school and knows more about Ebola than trained professionals do. /s
Probability is racist.
This racism crap is really tiresome. His lying uncle delayed treatment in Liberia. He came here and got the best medical treatment available for free, and he died because this disease has killed 70% of its victims. He came here, infected a young lady trying to help him along with nobody knows yet how many more people. I’ll listen to this nephew when he starts paying some of the hospital bill.
As always, family members step forth to say their relative didn’t do anything wrong and everything bad said about him is a lie.
Yea, it’s the hospital’s fault completely that he waited several days after realizing he was sick before demanding medical attention.
OK, let’s make you happy and pass legislation that any immigrant entering America must buy medical insurance for every month covering their trip. Let’s see how many Liberians can legally visit America then.
He's a veteran, not a veterinarian.
It was reported that Duncan had contact with a woman who shortly afterwards died from Ebola. That is a reasonable explanation for how he came down with the disease. But we are supposed to believe that that never happened because the nephew claims Duncan said it did not. So how did he contract Ebola?
Oh yea - I can smell the lawsuit from here........
Magic.
Ebola didn’t have to, it just felt like it.
Well this guy is PROVING one thing. If Duncan is the little angel that he says he is, then our screening system is TOTALLY BROKE because it’s unable to stop people that have even taken precautions in Africa.
We loose either way.
Another black ambulance chaser pops up every week.
Wait, what do Kim Kardashian and Gweneth Paltrow say? I can’t make a decision as to how I feel about this from only one ignoramus.
Also, DUNCAN HAD TO DIE, or we would have been flooded with planeloads of Ebola patients. Whether he was killed, left to die, not given meds, or given meds and still died is anyone’s question. But he could not be allowed to survive.
Interesting too that the only two cases here involve some type of screw up on the part of the medical community. Duncan was sent home when he should have been hospitalized, and came back much, much, sicker. Maybe if he were initially identified and hospitalized we wouldn’t even know his name now. The nurse was not in the inner circle of close contacts, so maybe the CDC couldn’t get to her before she (and her family) got with the media.
I just wonder...a lot, given the election in 3 weeks.
the disease has no real cure. so if the person succumbs to the disease it is racism. Excuse me Ebola is an equal opportunity disease it does affect by skin color, marital status or whatever other statistics these race baiters want to bring up. Example the nurse whom was infected with Ebola early on they are trying a type of solution that might work or might not. She is receiving the antigens from blood of the first American doctor was given to her as a n experimental choice. I am getting so tired of the racism coming from anyone whom is black.
How about We as Americans sue the carrier Duncan’s relatives for spreading a disease of mass destruction to us? And the hospital that risked everything to treat a hopeless case, needs to sue the relatives for the medical care the lying selfish Mr.Duncan got for free in Texas. He knew he was infected and flew here for the freebies, regardless of how many Americans would die from his selfish act.
No,instead we get whiney entitlement babies that are Duncan’s relatives, wanting to sue US. We get the unRev.Jackson telling Americans we are raciss again.
Speaking of the plane, I wonder how the fellow passengers are doing that shared such cramped quarters with the despicable liar and carrier of ebola, Mr.Duncan.
Ah yes, the 1000 yard stare. I’ve seen that before. Oh, and Jessie doesn’t look too good either. Being a race pimp for 50 years (or more) makes one look rather tired.
Yep, it sure does. Good catch UC.
If that nurse dies, I hope her family sues his estate, although I’m sure he has nothing. In that event, sue his racist family because he gave it to her by lying to come here for the sole purpose of getting free medical care. I have no sympathy for him. I had some for his family until they started using the race care.
