A Republican running in a hotly contested race for an open congressional seat now says that Obamacare is here to stay.
David Young, who is running for Iowa's third congressional seat, said at a healthcare forum Monday that the Affordable Care Act is going to be here to stay, according to the Des Moines Register.
The president is not going to allow his keystone legislation to go by the wayside. So we're going to have to work to make it better, he said.
That is a marked change from Youngs previous statements on the law. At a training event for activists in August, he said, We get a Republican majority, lets defund, cut, delay, whatever it takes to get rid of Obamacare.

No wonder Republicans lose. Gutless wonders.
Not if Ebola breaks it.
Think of it as your contribution to the rope the government will use to figuratively hang you with.
Yeah like you didnt plan this or kill it like we all wanted to but didnt listen to the people. FU
Gee...dware. That’s just a load of horse puckey.
Of course, we CAN get rid of it. Just takes clear vision, and good moral compass. Defund it. Specifically. Don’t pay any bills or fund any part of it under any circumstances.
The entitlement mindset is the greatest danger to this nation, today. STOP the madness.
“At this point, it’s not possible to do away with Ocare and return to what we had before. The implications and unintended consequences of doing so would do even more damage.”
So in your world Prohibition was never repealed?
Plessy v Ferguson still stands? Scott v Sanford? Korematsu v US?
Roe v. Wade should be settled just like Nat’l Federation of Independent Business v Sebilius (Obamacare)?
Your trust in the gov’t and courts and distrust of constitutional limitations are amazingly suspect.
Joni will do just fine.
“Yes, the lack of a budget is a problem. Very irresponsible of the DEMOCRAT PARTY. IIRC, the House Republicans HAVE PASSED A BUDGET.”
Yes the House Republicans have faithfully passed a budget. And every time they run into Harry Reid and Obama’s refusal to have a budget, they cave and agree to a continuing resolution that gives Obama everything he wants and more.
If they were doing their job, they would pass individual appropriations bills for each department and send them to the Senate one at a time, refusing to play the big omnibus budget bill game or the continuing resolution game. If the Senate voted a department appropriation down, or refused to schedule a vote, Boehner and the rest of the Republicans would scream that the Democrats were trying to shut down the affected department.
Unfortunately Boehner and the rest of the GOP leadership team refuse to play hardball. Their behavior suggests they prefer being the punching bag.
to the detriment of the healthcare system.
He should say we need to take back the WH to remove it, not say that it is ‘here to stay’.
I guess perhaps I should have been a little more clear in my earlier response. Sure, we can get rid of Ocare. Getting rid of it would not be the issue. The issue would be what happens when it’s gone. We won’t just go back to what we had before. As it happens, I work in the industry. We have looked at all angles 2, 3 and 4 times. We’ve run the models, we’ve tested the hypothesis, we’ve attempted to plan for many different eventualities. This is why I asked someone previously what THEY thought the consequences would be. Yes, we could get rid of Ocare in a heartbeat, and we should. But make no mistake, the result will be to entirely devastate the insurance industry and send us right to single payer. Again, single payer has always been the goal. Insurance companies spent millions of $$$ and several years preparing for Ocare. It doesn’t just go back to normal overnight. There will be many, many unintended consequences. That’s not to say that I don’t want to get rid of it. I’d like to see it gone, despite the fact that’ll mean I’ll likely end up out of a job, but that’s ok. I depend on ahigher power and I know I’ll fiind other employment.
Insurance companies will need employees, lots of them, they will be busy and looking for experienced workers. That is where you would present yourself, as an experienced worker, and worth every penny.
That makes as much sense as someone in 1855 saying slavery is here to stay.
Not quickly enough. If OCare were put down overnight, with defunding, etc., the impact would be devastating to existing insurance companies (which, really do deserve it due to being in bed with the fiasco from the start), and would be even more devastating on millions of former insured. FedGov would then swoop in to save the day with...wait for it...single payer! It's coming. I don't expect anyone to believe me, just wait and see. Again, we CAN rid ourselves of Ocare, but we'll not get what we're hoping for in the end.
