Facing Glut, Price of Oil Falls Sharply
NYT ^ | 10/13/14 | By CLIFFORD KRAUSS

Oil prices sank again on Monday, giving consumers more of a break and causing a split among OPEC leaders about what action should be taken, if any, to halt the slide.

The price drop has led to a near free fall in gasoline prices in the United States. On Monday, the national average price for regular gasoline was $3.20, 9 cents lower than it was a week ago and 14 cents below the price a year ago, according to the AAA motor club.

And when it gets back to -$2.00 I’ll believe we have some kind of recovery.

The thing that everyone ignores is that EVERYTHING is ten times what it was in the 50s and 60s. The stock market is just a reflection of inflation.

PERFECT time for the feds, state, and local, governments to rraise gasoline taxes. Sneak it in while the price lowers.

Howie Carr told a moonbat that the price of gas was $1.81 when Bush left office. The moonbat flatly refused to believe him.

Works for us either way, doesn’t it?

When 0bama took office, the price of gas was $1.79/gal.

...

The price collapsed due to the 2008 financial crisis.

Not in the long run. Becoming more dependent on OPEC is not going lower prices past the short term damage of the US oil production industry and associated jobs.

There’s truth to that.

Gasoline was over $4.00 per gallon during the election campaign of 2008, probably intended to help Democrats.

Two silver dimes will still get a gallon of gas, same as many decades ago.

I remember when gasoline prices went up or down during the Bush Administration, the leftwing news sites always explained why Bush was moving the prices up (to punish voters for whatever! his Saudi controllers told him to!) or moving the prices down (election coming up! Halliburton has to move more equipment into their war zones!).

The president does not move the price of oil up or down. Anybody who could control the price of oil wouldn't need to be president - he'd be the richest most powerful man on his own.
