New York state lawmakers and advocates of medical marijuana gathered in New York City on Sunday to discuss the implementation of a new state law authorizing medical marijuana.
The event drew potential patients, policymakers and hundreds of people interested in working in the new medical marijuana industry. State lawmakers voted this year to make New York the 23rd state to authorize pot for patients with conditions including AIDS, cancer and epilepsy....

Funny that. The original propaganda was that it engenders a disrespect for authority and propensity for violence. The liars really should make up their minds.
Such a correct statement used to be widely accepted among conservatives.
ROTFL!
Legalizing another drug will only make the welfare state grow.
Legalizing another drug will only make the welfare state grow.
Then by the same token criminalizing the drugs alcohol and tobacco will make the welfare state shrink. Should we do that?
start first with reforming the size and incompetence of the welfare state then we can discuss drug legalization.
drug legalization-illogical to support while welfare corrupts the system
Every “medical marijuana” law is just embarrassingly thin cover for full legalization just around the corner.
Please, quit pretending that you care about sick people.
Why - is it your theory that many people responsible enough to avoid pot when it's illegal will suddenly become irresponsible enough to not only use pot but render themselves unemployable when it's legal? Sounds unlikely ... is that YOUR plan?
Even if the care is feigned, it helps those patients who could medically benefit from marijuana - whereas standing in the way of that is the opposite of helping them.
Actually pot users do “render themselves unemployable” as many businesses drug test and will fire one for being a pot user.
Too bad all the energy used to legalize pot isn’t being used by these same advocates to get the govt out of a taxpayers fiscal house which is most important, imo.
Many is not all, ergo they are not unemployable.
No, it means businesses which test do in fact render many pot users unemployable.
One must acknowledge not all pot users practice personal responsibility.
Pro-pot legalization advocates really turn off potential supporters by ignoring the Socialist welfare state existence in their advocacy for legalization.
Simply wrong - testing by SOME businesses renders pot users LESS employable which is NOT UNemployable.
One must acknowledge not all pot users practice personal responsibility.
Nor all alcohol users - is that sufficient reason to ban booze?
Thanks for showing you can’t address how legalizing pot would impact the Socialist welfare state.
Alcohol abuse already drains the welfare system and now pro-pot legalization advocates want to add more fire to that.
Oh and
I view this just like legalized gambling.
The cash flow from taxes will be irresistable to legislators.
Casinos: Nevada, then NJ, now everywhere...
<yawn> Addressed several posts ago: "is it your theory that many people responsible enough to avoid pot when it's illegal will suddenly become irresponsible enough to not only use pot but render themselves unemployable when it's legal? Sounds unlikely ... is that YOUR plan?"
And I countered that with yes pot users do render themselves unemployable as many businesses don’t allow pot users to work for them.
the welfare state- pot legalization- a diaster.
Its why Leftists are for pot legalization as they see more voters dependent on Big Govt while their pot use makes them unemployable.
Also already addressed: "Simply wrong - testing by SOME businesses renders pot users LESS employable which is NOT UNemployable." Not to mention that legalization is independent of whether an employer tests. So no support there for the idea that legalization will swell the welfare rolls.
In your utopia all pot users are hard working taxpayers who won’t ever drain the welfare system while in reality many aren’t which is why leftists are pro-pot legalization and against drug testing those who receive welfare benefits.
I never said nor implied that, and it's not the question - the question is whether many MORE people will become welfare-draining users after legalization ... and the answer is that there's no reason to expect that and there is reason not to expect it.
Given that humans are fallible, its naive to not expect the worst.
