What are the most dangerous cities in Georgia? To get the lowdown on the cities in Georgia that are the most dangerous with the highest crime rates, we consulted the most recent FBI Uniform Crime Report. Our rankings are based solely on the data publicly released each year by the FBI. A crime is a crime, so we took both violent and property crimes into account when compiling our list of Georgia’s most dangerous cities. Our list of dangerous cities, however, are ranked according to violent crime rate.*
We realize that this topic is inherently controversial in nature and hits close to home. We are aware that there are many different ways to present this data, but when compiling this list we chose to consider not just murder rate, but both violent and property crimes. Our list is ranked by violent crime rate, but check each city listing to get a general idea of the city’s ranking in terms of overall criminal offenses. Only cities with populations over 5,000 were included. We also excluded cities with overall crime rates under 70.

I was raised in one of these cities. Growing up it don’t recall much crime. We slept with our windows open until we got central ac. I used to leave the windows down in my car. A few years ago a break in occurred across the street from my folks house. The majority of these crimes are drug related. When you see yuts driving around in tricked out cars and evaluate the average income in the area there is one conclusion. Drugs. Very sad to see this happening..
Atlanta is only #5? I bet if they broke Atlanta down by area, many neighborhoods (West End, Adair Park, Techwood, etc.) would rank higher than that. Mixing the gentrified ones in with the rest is presenting a false sense of safety.

College Park #1 - lol. I used to live in College Park. We joked that College Park was the place where the cost of living was going up and the chance of living was going down. At the time I considered it a step up since my place before was right down the street from East Lake Meadows in Dekalb Co.
I have an aunt in Athens. Where does she fit into this list?
Athens didn’t make the top 20, nor would I expect them to. I visited my son in Athens yesterday, wearing my Ga Tech attire of course. The UGA campus is far safer than the Ga Tech campus.
My great great great grandfather, Nelson Tift, founded 2 of the top cities on the list - Albany and Tifton. Albany was my 2nd home - birthplace of my mom.

There are a few areas in Athens that have high crime rates, and I wouldn’t go downtown after 10:30 pm. Otherwise, it’s quite safe.
Ya notice that Kennesaw is NOT on that list. Wanna bet it’s because they voted many years ago to ENCOURAGE residents to POSSESS FIREARMS AND AMMO!!!!

College Park, Stone Mountain, Union City, Eastpoint and Hapeville would be on any locals top ten. If I say why I’d be a racist.
These are exactly the type of towns I love, old buildings, not a sea of strip malls, etc. Guess I better do in-depth homework before stopping and hanging around checking everything out.
I like Albany. I go there twice a year to work at the Marine Corps Logistics Base. I stay down at the Hilton Garden Inn across from the Ray Charles park on the Flint River.
Albany can’t be too bad if they have a Hilton Garden Inn.
No you wouldn’t be. The wife, kids and I went to Atlanta this time last year and we didn’t have a map just GPS. We plugged in resturants and ended up at a Chili’s in College Park...to say the least, we felt very out of place.

We’re about 20 miles west of Macon and I’m rather surprised at some of this info. Surprised at some that didn’t make the list. Surprised at some that did. Very surprised that Atlanta didn’t score at the top and would have expected Macon to score much higher.
Nonetheless, we’re still headin’ fer the hills! Had more than enough of the flatlanders and the heat-lol! We just signed a contract on a house near Hiawassee in the shadow of Brasstown Bald Mtn and I can hardly wait to get moved.
