(CNSNews.com) - Both Homeland Security Secretary Secretary Jeh Johnson and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Tom Frieden said on Wednesday that 150 people a day arrive in the United States from Liberia, Sierra Leone or Guinea, the three West African countries that have been hit by the Ebola virus.
..."The number of travelers is relatively small. We're talking about 150 per day," Frieden told a news conference on Wednesday. He announced that questionnaires and temperature checks will begin at five major U.S. airports that handle "95 percent of all the 150 travelers per day who arrive from these three countries"
One hundred-fifty passengers a day from West Africa works out to more than a thousand a week (1,050), 4,500 a month, and 54,750 a year
Given the 21-day incubation period for Ebola and the 150 people coming in each day, that means that at any given time there could be 21 x 150 people in the U.S. who could be asymptomatically incubating Ebola, and who are free to wander around the country.
...All passengers flying out of West African countries already undergo temperatures checks and answer questions about their contact with Ebola patients, but the screening doesn't always work, as the case of Thomas Eric Duncan proves

Yep & he lied to get here . How many more are going to show up infected & not show a fever till after they get here?
How many are going to end up coming over the Southern border that are infected ? What happens when the special quarantine wards are full & more folks start showing up with the disease?
Our glorious leaders seem to think that a quarantine at the source of the epidemic & that is what the CDC is calling it instead of just an outbreak , is “Racist” instead of a intelligent public health practice.
While saying at the same time that the epidemic must be stopped at the source with public health measures such as isolating the sick from the healthy .
The folks at CDC also seem to think that this disease is not that infectious & that those medical professionals who wear full PPE are over reacting out of panic ( This was testimony at a hearing held yesterday 10-10-14 in Dallas Texas).
I believe it’s near 100% certainty that we have other active cases going on in the US right now, possibly a lot more. There is no way that someone didn’t contract the virus from patient Zero. I mean he vomited all around his apartment, there are those who were taking care of him at home, the ambulance crew( he vomited on the ambulance ), the unprotected clean-up crew, etc. There ARE more cases and the media has been ordered by Obama to hide them. Soon it will be too big to hide but after the elections Obama won’t care any more.
I agree. It should spread like wildfire.
WTF?
That is absolute insanity, given that Patient Zero arrived in the U.S. showing NO outward signs of infection. There's no possible way to know whether any of those people are similarly infected. The regime is gambling with the American peoples' lives that they're not.
Even if only a handful of them are, they could easily spark an outbreak here before anyone could stop it.
I swear, if an outbreak does occur, Obama and his party will be blamed by the vast majority of Americans, and they'll pay a price that will put them in a minority political status for years to come.
But that would trump Obama's ideology. No, better come up with some other plan.
AIDS was the first virus to be granted civil rights. It was connected with gay sex and therefore could not be handled as every previous contagious disease had been controlled.
I thought that was a one-off idiocy. But apparently Ebola has civil rights because it’s from Africa. So being in favor of controlling its spread is somehow racist.
Maybe we’ll get lucky, and the next epidemic will originate in Sweden and we can use normal epidemic control methods to fight it.
.00054% of the people in Liberia have Ebola.
If 4500 people per month fly in the to US from Liberia and Ebola impacted nations, that means that there will be a grand total of two people with Ebola coming in per month.
On the other hand, more than 10,000 people fly into the US from Asia per day and many carry the flu virus that will kill 30,0000 Americans per year.
Ebola has killed zero Americans. The flu will kill 30,000 Americans.
C'mon. You've been here long enough to know the answer to that question.
It would be raciss to block those poor black people from coming to America for ANY reason -- including the fact that their presence here could spark an unstoppable viral epidemic.
There. Now be a good serf and go pay some taxes or something.
questionnaires...
Ah um the old honor system eh?
How’s that working out in the Dallas ground zero area? We will never hear from the affected nor more so the infected
Just like the Benghazi story/lie.
Seriously, I don't thinks that's a problem. I mentioned quarantine with a fee. Make it high enough to cover their expenses for three weeks as a guest of the US government. Or, they could just wait in a hotel room wherever they are until the 21 days is up. I assume most would choose the latter.
Quite right.
It’s been working away in Africa, under conditions incredibly suitable to transmission, and has still not quite got to 10,000 cases in 10 months.
Nigeria has apparently managed to stop an outbreak in its tracks.
The taxi driver who drove Duncan and the pregnant girl around is giving interviews.
The guys who do the mass burials of the corpses are on strike for higher pay instead of being dead.
These are not the characteristics of a wildly contagious disease. If you get it, it’s horrible and deadly. But it is perfectly obvious it just doesn’t spread that easily. Or it already would have and there would be tens of millions of cases, not <10,000.
We wouldn't have to, once the word got out to the affected countries.
Lots of people would likely choose to wait it out in their home country, rather than stay in a quarantine facility in the U.S., where their chances of coming into contact with the infected would be much greater.
Stop quantifying risk!
It’s unAmerican.
Obama is doing his best to make sure Ebola gets a good start here.
Kerry could have the dubious honor of owning the quote for the ages.
Well, Kerry was for open borders before he was against them, so it's all good.
Last year it was SARS and bird flu that was going to kill tens of millions.
Raciss...
LOL, do we live in comedy central or not?
And I’m not giving you a hard time.
You’re undoubtedly right.
Good points.
Remember that Obama enforced a travel ban to Israel recently, when a Hamas missile landed there.
Americans are in far greater danger of being injured or killed by the thousands of West Africans being let into this country.
Where’s the travel ban on that? He hasn’t called for it for one reason, and one reason alone. He thinks it would be racist to do so.
