My son trained at Parris Island in 1986——no smoking allowed for the recruits.

Smoking was “officially” banned at most of my service schools, upgrade training, Combat Skills Training and Professional Military Education.

I say “officially” because most of the instructors told us find out who has a vehicle and go smoke there. Just don’t be stupid, sloppy or careless about it.

Exactly right. Grunts sneer at those who worry about smoke and dip being bad for their health. They are smart enough to notice that everything else is much worse for their health.

Agree. You can die for your country, but you can’t have a cigarette. Being a sodomite pervert is freedom of choice, but a little tobacco is so far beyond the pale no choice can be allowed. And it’s not as if heroin ever was sold in a PX, but somehow it finds its way into war zones.

Where there’s a will,there’s a way. :-)

Or how about the infamous Winston cigarette commercial featuring The Flinstones. Hearing Fred Flintstone sing the old Winston jingle has gotta make a lib's head explode.

We’re probably getting excited for nothing. The new improved 100% soy-based tofu MREs will include a cannabis carob chip cookie to keep everyone relaxed and even tempered.

I have been wondering how long this would take. They have already raised prices on cigarettes (and everything else) in the BX/PX and they pocket all the tax money. They also have the surcharge on commissary purchases, so we have lost probably around 15% of a serviceman’s purchasing power since Clinton.

The only real benefit left is the Class VI store. We can still get cheap booze, but there are rumblings that they are going to cease liquor sales completely.

That may please our Muslim masters, but it will piss off every GI that I know. It’s bad enough they ration it at our forward R&R locations. I always thought that was what R&R meant—time to forget for a while.

So, we’ll have a military made up of non-smoking lesbian single mothers, so you think we can beat the jihadis then?

No offense to all the hard fighting, non-smoking single mom lesbians defending what until recently was my freedom.

Don’t forget Lucky Strike Green “went to war” during WWII.

I expected to see anti-smoking comments on this thread and have already seen a couple just this short way in that are spewing the BS about cost to taxpayers for health care and fitness of our military.

I was Navy in early ‘60s. Once ship was outside US waters, tax free cartons of cigs were only $2. Of 5000 on the ship, the non-smokers were probably less than 10%. Officers, NCOs, enlisted and pilots (also officers) smoked.

We had to have cig ration cards when deployed abroad, but smokers would buy them from non-smokers. Replinishment at sea every few weeks brought more cigarettes.

This DoD has been woosiefied by all of the PC BS being pushed by the liberals and the Obama administration. Now they’re pushing this ban on smoking like the hoax of global warming.

smoking...“kill more soldiers and sailors than wars do,”
The cost to our military is significant.

While you’re free to express your opinion, so am I.

IMO, both of your statements are total BS. If you believe you are correct, then post figures and costs to support them.

That wasn’t due to a DoD ban on smoking. It was done to promote self-discipline and adherence to orders.

I appreciate your son’s service!

Man! You are quick! ....However, I seem to recall that the red was replaced with green on the packages sometime during the war.

I tried. I clicked your link and found nothing but symbols and gibberish, so I couldn’t read what was there.

Let’s keep it simple... (paraphrasing) You previously indicated that more of our military personnel have died from smoking than in wars/conflicts. Just cite a source for such statistics.

What branch and what war do you think I served in?

You are a fully commissioned NCP in the war against personal responsibility and freedom. Wear your title proudly.

p.s. NCP = nincompoop
