SKOPJE, Oct 9 (Reuters) - A British man with symptoms of the Ebola virus died in Macedonia on Thursday and authorities said they had sealed off a hotel where he stayed, keeping another Briton and hotel staff inside.

A Health Ministry official said the man had arrived in the capital, Skopje, from Britain on Oct. 2 and had been rushed to hospital at 3 p.m. (1300 GMT) on Thursday, where he died several hours later.

Have you heard of the Treaty of Bucharest? That section that is now a province of Greece was given to them 100 years ago as part of the settlement of the Balkan Wars. Another part was given to Bulgaria, part to Albania, and the largest part was given to Serbia. Under Yugoslavia, the portion that was given to Serbia became a republic in Yugoslavia. In 1993, the Republic of Macedonia declared its independence from the former Yugoslavia. The treaty was supposed to last for 100 years. Not holding my breath waiting for Greece and the other countries to give those Macedonian territories back.

Sealed off hotel where he stayed, keeping another Briton and hotel staff inside. had been rushed to hospital at 3 p.m. (1300 GMT) on Thursday, where he died several hours later. The man had been suffering from fever, vomiting and internal bleeding, and that his condition deteriorated rapidly.

Airline pilots should start wearing grim reaper outfits.

Fly the deadly skies...Fly Ebola Airlines

The common thread/pattern here? Foreigners, airports, airlines, hotels, and hospitals...

All this just prior to U.S. holiday travel season....

Oh yeah.....

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

That’s old news, and he was NOT answering what that caller was asking. He was asking about the survivability of the VIRUS, not the patient (last thing Rush “answered” before break/cutting off).

Inside the body (which is the issue about the sperm) is not the same as survivability outside the host/without a host. THAT is the crucial question.

Actually, that’s not too bad.

There are many viruses and bacteria that can survive MUCH longer than that!

Finally a chink in the armor!

And the question that has not been asked either until finally now.

Actually, as in all “fluid transmission”, people spit all the time just talking, never mind the times one lathers up too much and an obvious spitball flies out. (This is why the “fluid only” is so disingenuous.) One does not need to sneeze.

The terrifying part was that it could live in a man’s sperm for up to 90 days - so they are telling guys who survived to wear a condom. As if “You can get ebola from sex” wasn’t enough contraception for any possible participant.

Actually, I didn’t grt into details for the sake of brevity. The region of Macedonia includes FYROM, part of Northern Greece, and Southeast Bulgaria. Of course, the current population doesn’t have anything in common with the Macedonians living under Philip of Macedon or Alexander the Great. The reason it’s called FYROM is that Greece strongly objected to the former part of Yugoslavia taking the name Macedonia.

Perforated stomach, bleeding varices, obstructed bowel with ischemia...quite a number of things could have caused this illness...we’ll have to wait for the autopsy.

Autopsies are extremely dangerous (read the Hot Zone). The best thing to do is draw some blood and send it to the lab to look for the virus.
