U.S. Troops Fighting Ebola in Africa Will Be Safe: Pentagon
NBC News ^ | October 7, 2014 | by Erik Ortiz

Only a small number of highly trained U.S. troops among the thousands bound for West Africa will have direct contact with potential Ebola patients, military leaders said Tuesday. Those soldiers will be posted at testing labs to help identify people showing Ebola-like symptoms. They “meet the highest level of standards” and are already trained to deal with major crises, including nuclear disasters, said U.S. Army Gen. David Rodriguez, the commander of U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM).

Rodriguez also pledged during a Pentagon news conference that the 4,000 service members deployed to the ravaged region will be kept safe — and won’t be a threat when they return home. The military is using a combination of redeployment training, strict protocols and “careful reintegration” back into the U.S. to protect these troops. “I am confident we can ensure our service members’ safety and the safety of the American people,” Rodriguez said.

Sounds to me like they're practically doing the first-line triage. Not "non-risky" at all.

This is designed to infect our troops and render them incapable of fighting.

If we get some more Ebola victims being admitted to hospitals in the US, don’t be surprised if some of the health care workers stop showing up for work.

Ebola will save them an average of $2500 a year.

the hand gel they sent the first wave over with will, no doubt, prevent any from being infected at all.

/s

that’s all the special gear they gave them. freaking hand gel. makes you totally trust every word out of their mouths on this, or anything else.

frankly this is a whole exercise in keeping a lid on everyone and seeing how long it can be done.

Did generations of GIs training for Nuclear, Biological, Chemical warfare really think that it was all about nothing?

Do people think that International Islamic terrorism is not going to attack our military and nation with biological agents at some point?

The military better be able to handle this mission, or we are in worse trouble than we know.

Hey, that’s good news, because more than 300 health care workers have died from it, and I’m not sure the army’s stuff is going to be any better.

300 is 10 percent of 3000, as in 3000 troops. It’s rare you can use the word ‘decimation’ and really mean it in a prophetic sense - as in, “I predict our forces in West Africa will be decimated by the virus, if we are lucky.”

No one over there is worth one of our troops’ lives. I am surprised that no commander just told Obola to go F himself.

This is a criminal misuse of military fighting men. They are trained to kill people and break things. What does a grunt know about fighting germs???

Any bets how long it takes until the first soldier is infected? Or how many will be infected?

After all this time you still think we are sending in 3 or 4 thousand infantry to stand around and watch?
