Ted Cruz to campaign for Pat Roberts
Washington Post ^ | 10/06/2014 | Sean Sullivan

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) will campaign for Sen. Pat Roberts (R-Kan.) later this week, Roberts's campaign announced Monday. The tea party star becomes the latest well-known Republican to join the effort to rescue Roberts, who polls show is trailing independent candidate Greg Orman.

The Texas senator will help launch a Roberts campaign bus tour on Thursday. Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) will also join the effort.

"To stop the liberal Harry Reid-Barack Obama agenda, we must win the Senate Majority – and we can’t do that without Pat Roberts back in the Senate," Cruz said in a statement.

An NBC News/Marist poll released Sunday showed Roberts trailing Orman by 10 points. Orman has not said which party he would caucus with if the majority comes down to him.

The GOPe got their man in this and other races. He is losing. That’s the issue. GOPe Losers.

I intend to cram the GOPe’s losers down their throat just as hard as we had them cram Tea Party losses down ours.

"Roberts trailing Orman by 10 points"

As a sitting U.S. Senator, he failed to win 50% of his own party in the primary. He is losing the General. He is the NRSC's approved candidate, and is losing.

My point is that the GOPe got their man and he is a loser.

"The NRSC sent six workers to the Kansas City area for the final 10 days, and they knocked on more than 10,000 doors in Johnson County alone, a party official said. A Washington phone bank set up by the NRSC also made more than 40,000 phone calls in the final three weeks."

Come on, Karl Rove. Show us your genius! Turn this guy into a winner.

"Comparing Roberts’ situation to Thad is silly."

Not true. Both were aided by the National Party against competitors in the Primary who may have beaten them if not for the GOPe.

See separate posting in which Politico reports the NRSC aided Roberts.

The GOPe assists comparatively liberal candidates against comparatively conservative ones in the Primaries. They are not unbiased cheerleaders for either the party or conservatism. They are cheerleaders for comparative liberalism within the party.

And this candidate is a loser. I suppose he is conservative compared to Democrats. But what is the NRSC doing funding among competitors in the primary? Why can't they leave that to the state's voters, and back whoever wins? Answer: Because they hate conservatism itself more than Democrats. They (GOPe) ALWAYS back the more liberal guy.

I understand that within Kansas, a person may have to vote for Roberts against Orman. That’s not my beef. Heck, I might find myself doing that.

What I hate is the National Republican Senatorial Committee, Karl Rove, the GOPe generally grinding their axe against conservatism (rather than liberalism) at every juncture. They’ve purposefully made enemies of conservatives and conservatism, and they are reaping what they’ve sown.

I never suggested Roberts (48%) isn’t objectively conservative. He is, however, the mouthpiece of the GOPe, and relatively less conservative than the other viable challenger, Wolfe (41%).

Had the GOPe (NRSC) kept their dirty Big Government Republican hands out of the race, I wouldn’t have such a complaint.

But they came in with guns blazing in a PRIMARY to defeat the more conservative challenger.

Well. Now that they’ve poisoned the well, they are complaining that they can’t drink from it.

I’m just showing the GOPe as much love as they’ve shown conservatism all over the country.

Looks like he’s removed all of them this morning (Including one he posted this morning) Maybe he’s moving them to his campaign site.

The GOPe campaigned in the Primary, got their man, and he is losing.

The GOPe should let states’ Party Faithful decide races without National Party interference, and then back the winner.

The GOPe got their hands dirty in this one, and their guy is losing. They need to either make him a winner, or admit they are losers and should keep their mitts (and Mitts) to themselves.

True, but we are beyond those two conversations now. It is what it is now, and it's all about Harry Reid and Barack Obama having their man win, or not. Period. That is all that matters now.

Perhaps you are not old enough (intellectually) to vote. You clearly don't know what voting is about.

Here Palin and Cruz has showed up for Roberts - meaning Roberts wanted them to.

Just as important and possibly more so, THEY wanted to come.

Re-electing Pat Roberts furthers the conservative movement far more than any other possible outcome. Orman isn't going to magically become a conservative or even a moderate. He is a liberal without the integrity to admit it.

What exactly did the GOPe do in the Kansas primary that so offended some people? The GOPe didn't make Milton Wolf a crappy candidate - he did that all on his own. I would have been open to a more conservative candidate than Pat Roberts but I couldn't bring myself to get excited about a blank slate candidate like Wolf who had no previous conservative credentials. Pat Roberts might not be the perfect conservative but he is with us the vast majority of the time and he has my full support.

Exactly.

And I see good progress in weeding out RINO’s in the Primaries of the future.

I recall clearly the GOPe rubbing Tea Party losses in conservatives’ faces for many months after the elections. I’m just happy to return the favor, until they wish to declare a truce.

Is it only Conservatives who have to behave well? Does the GOPe get a pass for misbehavior?

"True, but we are beyond those two conversations now."

Tell that to conservative Kansans who are apparently sitting on their hands for reasons similar to the ones I cite. I'm not there.

So, on the ground, the conversation is not over. Thus, Ted Cruz must show up to re-engage in that precise conversation.

I hope Cruz is successful in saving this seat for Republicans. Then the GOPe will owe him. They will absolutely hate the taste of that crow. Maybe Boner will even take a meeting with Cruz, who has at times shown more power in the House Republican Caucus than the Speaker.
