Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) will campaign for Sen. Pat Roberts (R-Kan.) later this week, Roberts's campaign announced Monday. The tea party star becomes the latest well-known Republican to join the effort to rescue Roberts, who polls show is trailing independent candidate Greg Orman.
The Texas senator will help launch a Roberts campaign bus tour on Thursday. Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) will also join the effort.
"To stop the liberal Harry Reid-Barack Obama agenda, we must win the Senate Majority and we cant do that without Pat Roberts back in the Senate," Cruz said in a statement.
An NBC News/Marist poll released Sunday showed Roberts trailing Orman by 10 points. Orman has not said which party he would caucus with if the majority comes down to him.

Yeah, you’re right - the GOPe fears conservatives in power more than they do DemocRats.
You’ve got to have possession of the ball for any chance to advance it.
Roberts is not the most conservative candidate, but he is better than the Democratic in Independent clothes.
Mr. Roberts is ranked as the fifth most conservative member of the Senate in the most recent breakdown from Heritage Action, the political arm of the Heritage Foundation.
“Good point. Some Freepers insist on being miserable and trying to make everyone miserable. Here Palin and Cruz has showed up for Roberts - meaning Roberts wanted them to. And yet, some around here will continue to say Roberts should lose........”
Meanwhile, while Cruz and Palin work to help an Establishment candidate, the NRCC withholds funds from Marilinda Garcia for saying she won’t vote for Boehner. As usual, a one-way street.
GOPe fail. Calling in the tea party conservative big guns. Will they stop attacking us more than they do Democrats now? I doubt it.
Mr. Roberts is ranked as the fifth most conservative member of the Senate in the most recent breakdown from Heritage Action, the political arm of the Heritage Foundation.
I have been VERY critical of the GOPe. If this is a step towards working together without compromising principals then I think it is a good thing.
I still don’t know Robert’s record, and I hear mixed messages here on FR.
Yep, and of course, having the ball doesn't mean our team WILL advance it - but the key is what you said. Without it, there is ZERO hope of progress.
Roberts is no Ted Cruz or Jim DeMint - but he’s no Thad Cochran either. If he were, Palin and Cruz would not appear for him. That is a clear message, not a mixed one.
Hey, how many FREEPers will now call Ted Cruz a RINO member of the GOP-e?
Did the nrsc support Roberts against Wolfe in the primary?
Uncle Miltie is the acknowledged expert on Kansas politics here on Free Republic. There is not anything about that state that he does not know. You are messing with a guy who has the facts at his command.
I live in Kansas, and I have followed the campaigns this year to a limited extent. Milton Wolf appeared to be campaigning on the idea that Roberts was out of touch and potentially not even a state resident any more. But I never saw any advertising that explained why Milton Wolf was the right person to replace him.
The shenanigans and blatant illegality from the KS supreme court over the Democrat ballot slot is another issue, and one that resounds to the favor of Roberts.
Roberts is no Ted Cruz - he is much more an insider than an outsider in Washington. But he is also no liberal, to be sure. The “independent” candidate is a democrat in all but name, and appears to be extremely liberal despite his campaign commercial claims against illegal immigration.
I see no harm in Cruz campaigning for Roberts. Roberts did not take the same scorched earth approach as Cochran in Mississippi, and thereby didn’t permanently alienate a large proportion of the republican base in the process.
Will the GOPe stop attacking conservatism now? See Thad.
True, and worth understanding, but ultimately not as hellish as having Harry Reid as majority leader for another two years will be.
And keep in mind, it’s not like what you said is lost on Cruz or Palin.
Frankly, if the reporting from the Supreme Court is accurate, and sodomy will now be forced down the throat of the citizenry, it seems as though the elections matter little any more.
No. Roberts is not a RINO.
However the best that can be hoped for from his opponent, Orman, is that he’ll turn out to be neutral.
Roberts is conservative. If I lived in Kansas, I would get out and vote for him over the liberal opponent. I really don’t have much more to add to the discussion than that.
No. Roberts is not a RINO.
Exactly!
Some folks don’t get exactly what they want so they trash and burn and we end up with a lot worse.
Here in Michigan our GOP are mostly RINOs but they hold all 3 branches of government. While I don’t like everything they do, I can’t overlook making us a RTW state and eliminating the business property tax.
Having control gives conservatives like my representative power they wouldn’t have in the minority party. I think he’s worth watching for the future. He’s running (likely to win) the state senate seat. He’s imperfect but he was the original sponsor of the bill that became our RTW law.
