A Georgia man was killed by police executing a search warrant obtained after a car thief told police he stole methamphetamine from the dead mans vehicle, media reports say.
...snip...
The homeowner, David Hooks, a 59-year-old grandfather and businessman, reported the missing SUV.
...snip...
An hour after getting the search warrant, Shook said David Hooks wife saw camouflaged men in her yard with guns and told her husband.
David Hooks final act was to arm himself with a shotgun.
...snip...
Police searched the home for 44 hours and found no drugs.

“YOU are the PROBLEM in America today. Anyone can yell POLICE when they bust in your house.”
With all due respect, him pointing a gun at the police was the reason he was killed. And the raid was warranted. I am not defending the warrant itself, however. Who
Says who?
Based on the same article, the dead man's wife saw camouflaged men in her yard with guns and told her husband.
So when you're totally 100% surprised by a group of armed individuals who resemble some freaking armed terrorist commando mob are you the first one to give up??
If your wife is screaming this to you, would not your first instinct and reaction not be to protect yourself?
Does anyone know the general reputation of the Laurens County PD?
Of course the cops are going to say this. And to believe them also requires a belief that Mr. Hooks, a grandfather, successful businessman, pillar of his community and by all accounts, a law-abiding individual in possession of a security clearance decided "To hell with this! Let's end it all and go out in a blaze of glory!"
Do you know who shoots back at cops after cops announce themselves as cops? Murderers. Guys with nothing to lose. I don't believe that Mr. Hooks decided at that moment that he was going to throw everything away.
“So the GBI is investigating its own misconduct?”
If you read the article it is the GBI that is investigating the Laurens County PD’s mis-conduct.
“A FOURTY FOUR HOUR HOME SEARCH FOR METH????? Why? was the quantity so high and potent, or were there 38 otherwise unoccupied officers out trying to impress the Chief?”
Because they realized they screwed up and did their best to do CYA.
Exactly. What, the thief is going to tell the 'truth' about the drugs?
Pull the registration data and do a background check on the owner--chances are he's clean, but the thief has priors. This isn't Dr. Watson level, much less Sherlock Holmes.
Only a record of priors by the owner of the vehicle would justify a warrant instead of reporting recovery of the vehicle. The thief had the vehicle, the drugs were in his possession, too, maybe that could be a 'risk' of stealing or receiving stolen vehicles.
If the vehicle owner owned the drugs, too, he'd still be out the stash, even if he wasn't prosecuted, and that can have repercussions that won't be settled in court.
This $hiite will not stop until these criminals start going to jail for long sentences and civil damages are paid out of the police pension fund.
Well, you best get rid of all your firearms. After all, when someone bursts in your house in a home-invasion crime -- in order you to kill you, take your belongings, and rape any women there -- and you defend yourself, you take the risk that they are police. Therefore, NEVER defend your home against home-invasion crimes.
I will be sending a SWAT team there to make sure you got rid of all your guns.
What specific misconduct is that?
Did they specify was that is?
BTW, does the GBI not recruit from and closely associate with those at the county levels?
That would just insure that the pigs plant stuff.
The perp was probably shocked they bought it too.
“What specific misconduct is that?”
What misconduct you ask? Oh, just taking the word of a career criminal as truth.
Then gunning down a law-abiding citizen and searching his house for 44 hours to try and justify their murdering him.
I don’t know where the GBI recruits from exactly.
No, no, did they *state* what the misconduct was, or were they totally vague and unclear like all other government agencies?
They didn’t specifically say what the mis-conduct was, but I have a pretty good idea as previously stated.
They murdered an innocent man and felt compelled to find some way - any way to justify it.
Thanks for the correction. You see how easily rumors get started? I didn’t realize that slip up till now. That said, I would not want to lose privacy or full access to my own home for 44 minutes, let alone hours.
Moral of the story: when cops have warrant for your house search, you cannot brandish weapons. Well, you can, but that would be suicide by cops.
I'm so glad you're a part of an ever shrinking minority here at FR.
BTW, I looked at this link and the other link embedded in the article, and didn't see a word about "misconduct" mentioned.
It only stated: The GBI is investigating the shooting, as is customary when officers are involved in wounding or killing a suspect.
It's why I asked you if they specifically mentioned what type of *misconduct*. Turns out it never said a word about misconduct, only the "customary investigation".
“I am not familiar with the case except for the details contained within this anti police article.
It looks like there was a warrant for the search. Also, the constitution does not mandate a knock on the door to accompany the warrant, so I dont know why a no knock entry complaint was relevant.
Moral of the story: when cops have warrant for your house search, you cannot brandish weapons. Well, you can, but that would be suicide by cops.”
That’s pretty stupid and barbaric. First, did this guy even understand the animal thugs were cops? He had no reason to anticipate a raid.
News flash. The entire POINT of a raid, is to surprise its target. Well the moron pigs succeeded. This was a surprised man defending his home and family from thugs, not a criminal defending his stash. His reaction was perfectly reasonable.
These pigs are flat wrong for this, and in a just world would be charged for murder. Pigs being what they are, they won’t take responsibility for what they did. Cops never do.
I hope one day you get personal experience of cops going commando on you and your family, if you think that is such a noble way to conduct LE in a free country.
As for the Constitution? The Constitution was created to protect human dignity. SWAT raids craps all over that concept.
